~you are valid~

During this time of the year, we may often feel like no one is hearing or seeing us at the dinner table or holiday gathering. Remember your voice is valid and you deserve to be heard and respected.

Trauma can manifest in different and diverse ways. Being able to identify our triggers will enable us to realize when we are being affected by our past trauma.

~Latinx Heritage Month~
•
•
Reminding myself and acknowledging the barriers my ancestors faced. Acknowledging the current barriers still being experienced such as the lack of mental health care resources and the lack of presentation being faced by the Latinx community. Our contributions are lasting on society and full of powerful history. Reminding myself today that Latinx therapists matter.

Sitting in my office today, I was thinking about how much our space reflects us, heals us, influences us, communicates to others what we wish to convey.
•
•
I chose Frida Kahlo, an inspiration of mine, to display in my office because:
~ she identified as a womxn of mixed race
~ adhered to the ideals of social justice and often spoke against systems of oppression
~often used her art to question gender, class, and society

•we cannot make or enforce our reality unto other people’s reality•
•
•
Many of us have tried to change other’s reality and thought processes by giving advice and opinions. It can be disappointing when our friends and family members make choices that cause them a lot of pain. It can also be exhausting for each of us to put pressure on ourselves to 100% change someone else’s experiences. and reactions. It is freeing for each of us to come to the realization that we cannot make our reality someone else’s reality. It can be hard when we care for the other individual a lot. Remember to lighten the pressure off your shoulders a bit.

As a womxn of color who works as a teen and adolescent therapist I find myself wanting to empower other young minorities to continue breaking the stigma of mental health in each of our communities, acknowledge our systemic barriers, and to continue to work together to break those barriers.
