January is a time of new beginning and also the heart of the winter, a month that can be challenging during normal times, and 2021 is far from what we have known as "normal." You are not alone if you are struggling with your motivation, relationships, or emotional state. We encourage conscious self-care attending to simple things like drinking enough water, moving your body, getting sleep, and balancing connection and alone time as your circumstances allow. Step by step we are headed toward longer days of light, and the seeds planted now showing their growth a few months down the line.

Today is National Coming Out Day. While there has been great evolution in attitudes regarding LGBTQIA identities, Coming Out is still a vulnerable and courageous act, and may happen in many steps and stages, starting with oneself. We are honored to support clients in these processes.

My first guest appearance on a podcast, this one focused on The Internal Family Systems model and its many applications, and I am addressing it's usefulness addressing s*xuality.

On today's episode I chat with Patricia Rich about Self Led S*xuality. Patricia is a certified IFS Therapist and AASECT Certified S*x Therapist and Supervisor. She brings her expertise, her vulnerability, and her warmth to teach us about this new model based on IFS. I had to get a few of my parts to...

Dear Friend of The Relating Well Center,

We feel grief and outrage at the murders of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, and Breanna Taylor. We assert that Black lives matter and stand in support of those who are raising their voices against injustice. We acknowledge the huge psychological burden born by the Black and Brown people of this country where systemic racism is rampant and exhausting and dates back to its beginnings.

The mission of The Relating Well Center is to help people to build deeper connections through the lifespan. Research shows us that deeper connections to oneself, to one’s partner, to family, community and a greater sense of meaning help us to feel good, work productively, and enjoy healthier relationships. Even physical health improves when connections are strong.

However, this mission of course assumes that we are alive. That we can breathe. That we have sufficient safety, food, shelter and healthcare to be able to strive for this level of connection. That we are not actively traumatized, gripped by pain and nervous system arousal that does not abate because the danger is real and persistent.

We are committed to opposing racism so that all people have equal access to healthy lives, including healthy relationships.

To this end, we are:

Donating to NAACP Legal Defense Fund

Committing to educating ourselves further and invite you to do the same including using these resources bit.ly/ANTIRACISMRESOURCES

Continuing to examine our own identities and the impact they have on ourselves, our clients, and our larger community.

Welcoming dialogue and feedback regarding these issues.

We hope that you and your loved ones are safe, healthy, and feeling heard and supported.

Warm regards,

Patricia Rich

Check out this short meditation I developed as a quick way to "u-turn" and notice your internal experience. Good for locating yourself and connecting during challenging times.

Certified IFS Therapist Patty Rich offers a brief, 3 minute meditation, "BEATS" to help calm your system and refocus on your inner wisdom.

Have you and your Quaranteam been Relating Well? Whether you are sequestered alone or in a home with family or housemates, you may have found a comfortable rhythm that is calm and fairly harmonious, or may find that irritability is the name of the game and tempers or low mood prevail. Many people are finding themselves feeling fine one minute, and then unexpectedly reactive at another. As the shut-down enters the 8th week in Montco, PA, you may feel weary of the confinement, or cozy and adapted, or possibly rattled to the core, facing true economic or health losses.

Try to be kind to yourselves, patient with your team, and to have internal and external conversations where you can authentically acknowledge what you are feeling. As the well reminds us, if we reach down deep, we may find the cool waters that can refresh us. Taking a few moments to look deep within ourselves can similarly help us to sort out our feelings, allowing them to loosen their hold on us and offering more access to the larger Self we all have inside. This frees up energy and can help us to feel more connected, focused, and calm. If you need help coping with your feelings or relationships, The Relating Well Center, LLC is here to help.
