Philadelphia area refugees and asylees to practice and improve their English through The Center for American Language & Culture at Temple University (TCALC).

TCALC regularly offers a conversational English class to our participants called Chatting with Americans. In this class, a group of American volunteers under the leadership of an experienced ESL teacher engage in conversations on a variety of topics, one-on-one or in small groups, with international students learning English.

This summer we happen to have more volunteers than students, so we would like to offer the class, at no cost, for up to 15 refugees and asylees.

The schedule for Chatting with Americans is:

Tuesdays

11:30 AM - 12:50 PM

Summer Session 1 dates: May 4 - June 15, 2021

Summer Session 2 dates: June 29 - August 10, 2021

To participate, students must meet the following criteria:

They must be 18 or older.
They must have at least basic English conversation skills (not absolute beginners).
They must have access to one of the following:
A computer with internet, a we**am and a mic
A smart phone that they are willing to download the Zoom app onto
I will send instructions to participate and the Zoom link to the first 15 students who are referred.

To refer a student, please email me, Todd Miller, at todd.miller@temple.edu.

Thanks for getting the word out!

Krysti Lan Chi Vo, I am a psychiatrist, a current leader of the American Psychiatric Association's Caucus of Asian American Psychiatrists, a medical director of telehealth at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP), a digital researcher and entrepreneur.

To address the mental health consequences brought by the pandemic and increase in Asian-directed hate crimes, I have organized a free support group for Asian Americans. The virtual event was widely attended by Asian American Professionals and Mental Health Practitioners. Further, this is a 75 min monthly process group which provides a safe space for us to talk about issues from identity, work, relationships, or whatever that comes to our mind and whatever we feel. If you are interested feel free to register on the link provided below.

Lastly, I am inviting you to celebrate our heritage by learning how to troubleshoot the top 5 AAPI issues. This will be a live Q&A event wherein the issues that we cared about will be answered by AAPI Mental Health Experts. If you are interested, please reply to this email or register on the link provided below.

For collaboration please feel free to send a message or book directly on my calendar page for a 30 min meeting. If it is convenient here is the link http://bit.ly/DrVo30.

I hope to see you there and please forward this message to your friends and network who might be interested.

Regards,
Krysti Lan Chi Vo, MD

Please join at the google meet link that will automatically attach to the calendar invite to you.

Free transit passes are available onsite at both of the vaccine clinics for anyone who needs them. Anyone who needs to schedule transportation assistance should call 3-1-1.

Alternatively, if you identify a centralized person that has the capability to send one Excel file for the institution or a subset of the institution, then we can send appointment sign-up emails to everyone on the list. Please let us know who this person is and we can get in touch with them regarding what information is required to collect. Email Rachel Giatras at Rachel.giatras@phila.gov.
