It’s time for In The Community with Staci Scott – WURD Radio 96.1 FM, 900 AM ( 5:00 pm - 6:00 pm) Sunday, February 28th. Our topic this month is: The Covid-19 Vaccine – Know the Facts! Here’s what we know. Studies show that COVID-19 vaccines are effective at keeping you from getting COVID-19. Experts also think that getting vaccinated may help keep you from getting seriously ill even if you do get the virus. The question on some folks’ minds is – should I or shouldn’t I get the vaccine? On this month’s show we’ll chat with Dr. Merleen Harris-Williams, Sr. Medical Director at Health Partners Plans who will update us on what HPP is doing to spread the word about staying safe, getting tested and getting the vaccine. Beverly Donaldson, Executive Director of Neighbor 2 Neighbor CDC will share lessons learned from hosting a community vaccine clinic. And to wrap things up we’ll speak with Dr. Cheryl Bettigole, Director for the Division of Chronic Disease and Injury Prevention - City of Philadelphia, who is focused on reaching communities in the city that have been disproportionately affected by COVID-19 and may need assistance in accessing the vaccine. This is show you don’t want to miss! As always we hope you tune in and join our communi-tea party! Thanks! , , ,

Have you heard? The Black Doctor’s Covid-19 Consortium is conducting a 24 hour vaccination clinic starting 12 noon today (2/19) through 12 noon Saturday (2/20) at the Liacouras Center. No appointment is necessary however you must be a Philadelphia resident. Individuals will be seen on a first come first serve basis. The consortium will be administering the Moderna vaccine. Eligible Philadelphia residents must be in phases 1A and 1B. Per the consortium, teachers who live within the hardest hit zip codes will also be eligible to get vaccinated at this 24 hour event.

They are prioritizing several zip codes that are underrepresented in vaccine rates:
19119, 19121, 19123, 19124, 19126, 19131, 19132, 19138, 19139, 19140, 19141, 19142, 19143, 19144, 19145, 19146, 19150, 19151, and 19153. These zip codes are approved by the Philadelphia Dept of Public Health (according to the consortium). These zip codes are the areas of the city with the highest number of infections and death, but lowest rates of vaccinations.

Please share with everyone you know. It’s a 24 hour “Vaxathon”.
