This morning we received word from Carter's family that his health had recently declined and it was time to say goodbye. Carter was adopted in 2017 at approximately 2 years old, after losing his previous family when his owner passed away from cancer. He was a patient and gentle boy with the toddler in his foster home, and it did not take him long to find his forever family. He was spoiled by them and loved beyond measure for 8 years. We share with them in their heartbreak. Run free, Carter. 💔

Yesterday we said goodbye to yet another one of our former dogs, Brayden. Brady was adopted from DOBER, Inc. in 2014 after being picked up as a stray in WV and being transferred from a shelter there. We were told that he had neurological issues and while we never received a formal diagnosis, Brady never let his adorable head tilt and high step slow him down. Thankfully his mom and dad saw past that and knew he was meant to join their family. Brady quickly nestled his way deep into their hearts and spent his days as a spoiled Dober should - guarding the yard from critters or lounging on the beach. We are thankful for the time that we had with him and will miss him deeply. Run free, Brady "Tater tot" 💔

Yesterday our friends said goodbye to Buddy, adopted from Dober, Inc. in 2013. One of only a few of our "fauxbers," Buddy came to us as a puppy and took no time at all to find his forever family. They fell instantly in love with him and he had a beautiful life alongside many 4-legged friends. Buddy had a special bond with his dad and I always enjoyed getting videos of the new tricks he was learning. He was loved dearly by all and is already missed so deeply. Run free, Buddy. 💔

Two weeks ago we received word that our beloved all natural, blue boy Vinnie (pictured in the center) was led gently from this world, following a short battle with DCM.

Vinnie came to us at 8 years old. A senior boy who had been through so much bouncing around yet he didn't waste a second loving on everyone. He was by far one of the easiest dogs we've ever had. He was well behaved, never gave anyone grief, enjoyed wrestling with the other dogs, and was content to just snuggle up on a laid back day. He spent 2.5 years with his dad and Dobe siblings. Despite his age, he still had a ton of spring in his step and he enjoyed daily walks and romping through the woods. His absolute favorite activities were hunting for chipmunks and chewing on bones!

Sweet Vinnie, you were dearly loved and will be deeply missed by all at DOBER, Inc.

Hi, my name is Enos and I’m looking for a devoted family to call my own.
It’s absolutely mandatory that my new family be willing to pet my head and play fetch.

I like to go for walks but if I see a squirrel, I quickly forget my leash manners. More frequent walks and some tasty treats should help me to learn how to work through this but I need a family to help me do that. I know some basic commands but I often find it more fun to completely ignore the human. I think they mentioned something about selective hearing, but I wasn’t really listening.

I learned a new trick in my foster home. There’s a bell to ring when I have to go potty, and I’m happy to bonk it with my nose when I want to go out..to p*e, to listen to the birds chirping, to see what the neighbors are up to, and even just to let some fresh air into my nostrils. It’s really fun to watch how quickly the humans come running when I ring the bell!

A Note from Enos’ Foster Family: For the first 2 and a half years of his life, Enos was not allowed in the house and had to live in a crate in the garage. Now that he’s part of the household, he’s still learning how to resist helping himself to the things he desires, especially food on the table/counters, and his favorite thing of all – tissues/paper! Left to his own devices for too long, Enos will easily find trouble, but with a human by his side, he is fully satisfied to just sit next to you and be loved on. This is definitely your typical knuckle-headed, velcro Dober boy. Despite his size, this boy is incredibly well mannered with children and seems to really enjoy their company. He will however steal their food, so he will need continued work on self-control. Enos has not had a lot of exposure with other dogs but has done very well with those who are calm. He needs a little time to warm up to dogs that are very pushy or rambunctious, as they easily intimidate him.

Enos is up to date on required vaccines, has had a full physical exam with blood work, is heartworm negative, neutered, and ready for adoption. He did come into rescue with a severe foot infection. While it has improved dramatically, we are still working to fully heal his feet so his adopters will need to continue with any required treatments.

If you are interested in adopting Enos, you must live within 3 hours of Bangor, PA and be willing to commit to the adoption process. This includes filling out an adoption application to include veterinary and personal references, participating in a telephone interview, and complying with a home visit. This is all completed PRIOR to meeting with a dog. Additionally, we are unable to field phone calls until your telephone interview. Any questions prior to then can be sent via email to info@doberinc.com and will be addressed as soon as possible. As a rescue committed to finding the most suitable home for each dog, we do NOT operate on a first-come, first-served basis. Applicants must understand that after a lengthy adoption screening process, another family may be deemed more suitable for this dog. Approved adopters must complete an adoption contract and pay the adoption fee in order to finalize the process. The adoption fee for Enos is $250 payable to DOBER, Inc.

To apply to adopt Enos, please complete an adoption application by visiting https://www.tfaforms.com/283345. PLEASE BE SURE TO FULLY SUBMIT YOUR APPLICATION – after clicking SUBMIT on the application, you must review your submission and CLICK CONFIRM. You will then be taken to a page to confirm that your form has been submitted.

This morning we received word that our darling Vito (lovingly nicknamed "Meatball") had declined to the point that his family needed to make the difficult decision to free him of his pain. This big teddy bear came to us as a senior from a shelter in NJ. Despite a past where humans had failed him, his head always managed to find a spot in your lap and it was impossible to resist petting his velvet ears! Vito was 11+ years old and spent a great 4 years with his family, leaving behind not only his humans but his sister Sandi (also adopted from DOBER, Inc.)

Handsome Vito, you were dearly loved and will be deeply missed by all at DOBER, Inc.

Hi, my name is Carter and I’m looking for a fun family to call my own. I need a family that has a fenced in yard to keep me safe because I have so much fun racing around and taking in all of the sights and sounds. I really love barking, barking, barking at all of the exciting things outside – especially the cats that walk by my yard! I enjoy having other dog playmates and have even lived with some farm animals but I do get a thrill out of chasing geese and cats might also be too tempting for me, so let’s keep them out of this picture please. Kids are fun but when they make a lot of noise I get a little confused and scared, so I’d be much happier if my family didn’t have any small children. I try my hardest to be a good boy in the house; I never have any accidents and I don’t help myself to anything on the counters but sometimes when I get a little bored my mouth accidentally finds a sock or shoe or something else my foster mom says is inappropriate. I promise to work hard on this if my family makes sure I get enough attention and lots of exercise. I’m ready to settle into a permanent home and I would love to meet you! If you think you could be my forever family, please make sure you read the note from my foster family so we can decide if you might be a good match for me.

A note from Carter’s foster family: Carter is an albino Doberman and we recommend that his potential family does some research before applying to adopt. This sweet boy came to us when his mom was very suddenly diagnosed with stage 4 cancer and given a very poor prognosis. Carter was understandably confused and took some time to adjust to his new environment but is doing well and ready to find his forever home. We estimate him to be about 2-3 years old; content to snuggle up but also delighted to run and play. He’s a bit mouthy when excited and will grab you by the hand to let you know he wants to play. This boy is incredibly sweet and playful but a bit timid. He is friendly with all people he has met and is the perfect balance of being watchful yet happy to allow visitors through the door. Carter is gentle with kids but nervous with loud noises from children. Visiting children are acceptable but due to his stress from loud noises and his difficulty adjusting to new environments, a home with small children will not be suitable even though he seems to enjoy their company otherwise. This handsome Dober could use some leash work but has great manners otherwise. Please be aware that his home will be required to have a traditional fence (invisible fencing will not be considered). If you’re looking for a fun young boy with a great personality, Carter is the guy for you! Please visit www.dobermanunderground.org to fill out an adoption application.

Please no phone calls prior to filling out the application on our website. You may email us at dobermanunderground@gmail.com if you have any questions.

On Friday the world lost an amazing woman and Doberman rescue ambassador when our dear friend Sue Boye passed away. Sue fought a long and courageous battle with cancer, never letting it take the light from her eyes. During her time here on earth, Sue had previously served as a board member for another rescue and had fostered dozens upon dozens of dogs. After taking a step back from these duties, she continued helping our beloved breed by doing home visits and assisting in any other areas she was able to. She was not only a friend to the 4 legged but she was a great friend to all and an amazing mother, grandmother, sister, and wife. We will surely miss Sue and want to take this time to acknowledge the tremendous difference she made and what an incredible woman she was. Sue’s family is asking that all donations be made in her memory to one of our sister rescues, Doberman Underground. Please visit their website at www.dobermanunderground.com if you wish to give in her memory. Here is a photo I snapped of Sue when we were at a picnic together in 2010 and this is how I’ll remember her – leashes in hand and a big smile on her face. Sister, we love and miss you.

Earlier this year we made the announcement that we would be dissolving the organization by the end of the year. As the year has drawn closer to the end, we have been convicted about whether this is the best course of action and what other options we might have. We have taken in a great deal of feedback and have done our best to assess the needs that exist and our ability to help in various ways. In order to remain loyal to our commitment to Dobermans while also respecting our limitations, we have been discussing the possibility of changing the mission of DOBER, Inc. and restructuring the organization. This is a big project with no guarantee what the outcome will be but we believe it is something that we need to explore. In the coming months we will be discussing what these changes would entail and reaching out to the necessary persons that would need to be involved. Once we have done this, we will be better prepared to answer any questions or concerns that our supporters may have. In the mean time, we welcome your feedback. You may send an email to info@doberinc.com with any suggestions or offers of assistance. We thank you for standing by us throughout the years and promise to update everyone just as soon as we have more information to share.

As a rescue, one of the things that bring us great joy is receiving updates from our families after our dogs have been adopted. Unfortunately, there are some updates that you can never prepare your heart for. Yesterday morning we learned of tremendous loss that our rescue family has experienced when we received an update that 2 of our former DOBER, Inc. dogs passed away very suddenly on Sunday.

Zander was adopted in May of this year after narrowly avoiding euthanasia two times before coming to our rescue. He spent over 2 years with us when his forever family finally found him and knew he needed to be a part of their lives. It was a match made in Heaven. He spent several great months there before having sudden, unexplained episodes of congestive heart failure in September. Thankfully he rebounded quickly and had been doing very well. On Sunday night he climbed in bed with his family, stretched out, and took his very last breath. Although his family knew of his heart condition when they adopted him, you can never prepare yourself for the incredible loss of such a special dog, especially when it comes so unexpectedly. Zander would have turned 5 on December 5th.

Minka came to us in October of 2014. With the incredible resilience typical of this breed, Minka overcame so many things that would have destroyed the spirit of most. Minka was used by a puppy miller and then discarded before finding her way into the hands of several who could not see what this beautiful girl was worth. Bearing old scars across her back and muzzle, the worst set of teeth we have ever seen, and having been debarked through the severing of her vocal cords, Minka remained one of the sweetest dogs you could possibly have the pleasure of meeting. She was adopted in February of 2015 and though she loved both of her people, she became a constant companion to her daddy. Earlier this year she was diagnosed with melanoma. Surgery kept this monster at bay when she was suddenly hit with immune-mediated hemolytic anemia. She spent time in and out of the hospital over the last several months before collapsing at home on Sunday and passing quickly. We did not know Minka’s exact age but estimated her to be approximately 6-7 years old.

Please keep in your prayers these families and all of those so deeply touched by these special dogs over the last few years.

Run free Zander and Minka. You were dearly loved and will be deeply missed by all at DOBER, Inc.
