Therapy Changes Lives

Therapy Changes Lives Therapy Changes Lives represents my approach to therapy-change for the better through insight and self-exploration. Positive change starts here.

I have more than 20 years of experience as both a counseling psychologist and a clinical supervisor for aspiring psychologists. I am currently offering sessions via Teletherapy, and when safely able, will offer in person services at my offices in Pitman NJ & Philadelphia PA. I am
glad to be able to provide teletherapy sessions for individual, couples, or family therapy throughout Pennsylvania and New Jersey! While I tailor my services to meet the broad needs of my clients, I have several niche areas of expertise. One is suicide assessment and prevention, and another is the LGBT population. Often these two interests intersect. In January 2011, I was appointed to the LGBT Youth Suicide Prevention Task Force of the National Action Alliance for Suicide Prevention . Regionally I serve as a member of the Pennsylvania’s Youth Suicide Prevention Initiative. From 2011 to 2013 I served as Clinical Division Director for the American Association of Suicidology and as Vice Chair for the association’s Executive Board. I have published articles and studies on LGBT mental health, affirmative psychotherapy, and suicide assessment. My Cumulative Factor Model is the first model to cumulatively ascertain both protective and risk factors for suicide among LGBT youth. I’ve also worked to spread awareness of suicide risks and preventative measures by providing expert commentary in media outlets nationwide. I earned my bachelor’s degree from Penn State University and my master’s in counselor education and doctorate in counseling psychology from Temple University. I was appointed the inaugural Sandra Williams’ Postdoctoral Fellow at Temple, offering structural family therapy interventions for adolescent suicide attempters and their families.

I so agree that 13 is too young for social media. And for some kiddos the critiques/body dysmorphia and judgment cause so much anxiety! CNN

US Surgeon General Vivek Murthy says he believes 13 is too young for children to be on social media platforms, because although sites allow children of that age to join, kids are still "developing their identity."

So I was walking our doggies Molly & Archie and two separate interactions just felt really good and made me think we are all Doing our best to be gracious and “normal”.
A boy maybe 8 years old hollered from across the street ...”I like your dogs - what are their names?” We struck up a conversation as he skipped on the other side of the street as both Molly & Archie did their very best to not run over for pets and play😊 he turned off at the next corner and we said our goodbyes from 30 feet away...just a really good kid!
Further down the street our neighbor crossing guard came out to her front stoop to see if the doggies wanted biscuits. Backstory- this very kind woman always has biscuits and loves Molly & Archie😊
How cool is she to see us from
Her kitchen window and come out to interact w the pups ? We did social distancing (leashes) and humans & doggies were all happy for this exchange. This just struck me as uplifting and sweet. All just while walking Miss Molly & Mister Archibald in our wonderful town of Pitman NJ!

On this toasty first day of Fall try to take a moment to romp like a dog or gaze at some late blooming flowers. Even though we are all busy-taking these moments of pause help us appreciate Mother Nature (and, of course, our Furry Friends 😊)
