It is with a heavy heart we share the news of the untimely passing of our dear colleague and friend, Rajasekharan (Shyam) Somasundaram. He was a pillar at Wistar for almost 32 years, best known for his time in the lab of Dr. Dorothee Herlyn until she retired, then moving to us. Shyam was an accomplished scientist and beloved colleague to many, both at Wistar as well as the wider national and international scientific community. Many words have been used to describe him: mentor, guide, inspiring, wise, gracious, modest, gentleman, friend, and like family. We could dwell in this loss, but we know this is not what Shyam would have wanted. Instead, we'll honor his memory and legacy by working even harder to meet the goals he had committed his career to achieving. We're proud to have worked with him and grateful for his contributions. Our deepest sympathies go out to Shyam's family, his friends, and everyone in the science community who are mourning his passing. All of us in the lab miss him terribly and he will forever remain in our hearts.
