Mary was founded in 1973 by the Sisters of St. Francis of Philadelphia. In 1996, St. Mary Medical Center became an Eastern Region member of Catholic Health Initiatives (CHI), a national, non-profit Catholic health-care system. In July 2001, St. Mary transferred to Catholic Health East, a Catholic health-care system with a regional focus. Catholic Health East is the second largest regional healthcare system in the Delaware Valley. In May 2013, Catholic Health East merged with Trinity Health, a multi-institutional, Catholic health system sponsored by Catholic Health Ministries.

In November 2024, St. Mary Medical Center was the first hospital in Bucks County to use the Abbott Navitor valve—the latest to be approved by the FDA. Interventional cardiologist Hitesh Raheja, MD, has successfully installed the Navitor valve in several patients, including James Magee.

Magee was up and moving within four hours and was discharged two days later. He can now walk over 3 miles, do sit-ups and complete 100 push-ups without feeling fatigued. Read his story to learn more.
