It's hard to have an older kid who struggles with eating when most of the picky eating tips you see tell you to use fun food picks and have your child play with food.

I've worked with a lot of older kids with eating struggles and we have many adolescents in the Eating with Ease Program for Big Kids.

I want you to know that there is hope for your older child - even if they've struggled for a long time and have a very limited diet.

I believe that the foundation stays the same for helping them. You want to adjust the approach.

Being on your child's team and making sure they're involved is huge to helping them!

There are 2 spots open in my Eating with Ease Program this month. Send me a DM to see if you’re a good fit!

Everyone is entitled to their own struggle.

But I know how alone you feel.

None of your friend's kids are picky the way your child is picky.

No one really seems to get it.

Parents in my Eating with Ease Programs say one of the best parts is finally being with THEIR people - people who get what you mean when you say your child is picky, people who share your struggles and hopes.

I've been told the other parents are the BEST part of our weekly calls. They're your support, friends, and extra layer of expertise.

Wish your super picky eater had more veggies on their list of preferred foods?

Here's the thing about veggies and all non-preferred foods - we can't GET our kids to eat them.

Switch your mindset and instead focus on ways that you can support your so they can eat when they are ready.

How can you make that happen? (because you've been trying for a looong time and haven't made any progress)

So picky eating is normal....but what happens when your child's eating challenges don't FEEL normal to you?

How do you know when what you're seeing is worth doing something about (instead of just waiting for them to grow out of it)?

Here's the thing - "picky eating" looks different for every kid and affects every parents and child differently.

If these resonate with you, you deserve to get support. You don't have to wait for them to outgrow it. Some kids do, and some kids benefit from support.

Trust your gut.

Your child is sooooo picky.

They never try new foods.

Except for packaged snacks and sweets...oh, and they love nuggets (but only that ONE particular brand and shape!)

One reason why fruits, veggies, and proteins can be hard for kids is because they're different every single time they see them.

Beyond that, every single bite can be different.

It's hard for kids to know what to expect and hard for them to spot those inconsistencies (and how disappointing is it to get a surprise mushy berry?!).

I help families help their kids feel more comfortable with variety. We start with "their food" and move on from there to expand their diet and make eating easier all around.

FUN, NOVELTY, and AGENCY at mealtimes can make all the difference when your toddler isn't eating.

Try this for general picky eating or those weird times when your child just isn't eating.

Think of these as your secret sauce. They're not the cures to pickiness, but they can help make a difference in the moment when everything else is "right" and they're STILL not eating.

Wondering what ELSE you need to be doing for these tricks to work and feeling stuck with your picky toddler?

I'm running an intimate Eating with Ease program for just for toddler parents who want to reverse picky eating and help their kids try new foods and eat more variety.

Their picky eater tried salad! 🥗

The other week I was having a 1:1 meeting with a family from the Eating with Ease program and I got the best update -

their daughter tried salad!!

The parents made one simple change: they let their child be the "waitress."

She served her parents salad and when she came to her own plate, she decided to serve herself, too (even though she had never eaten salad before!).

What happened next? The meal continued and without any prompting SHE TRIED SOME!

Serving family style or letting your child serve a meal isn't the "right" way, but it can be a great way to give them food confidence as well as the opportunity to taste on their own terms.

Does your child "try" new foods, but only take the TEENIEST TINIEST little bites?

One of the parents in the Eating with Ease program brought up this issue with her young son during office hours.

I like helping kids progress with their eating with "can phrases" - showing them all of the possibilities that they CAN do when they are ready.

"If you're ready you can take a big hippo bite!"

Another mom suggested using mom- and dad-sized bites.

The pizza post from the other day brought up a lot of comments about CHEESE.

One mom shared that her child loves cheese puffs but isn’t a fan of actual cheese. She was wondering how to introduce a cheese sandwich, which could then open the door to other sandwiches too.

This chain relies first on texture and flavor. Before introducing regular cheese, I thought to stick with cheese flavor and less “solid” cheeses like the kind found in packaged crackers.

Once your child is eating a cheese cracker, you can adjust the kind of cheese you’re serving and introduce bread too.

Don’t let this food bridge box you in. You could also branch out to mac n cheese and cheese dips (I’m thinking those snack packs with little rods to dip).

There’s no right or wrong way! But if you’re looking to get started in the right direction, grab one of my books linked in bio. Both detail how to crate your own food bridges so you can introduce your child to new food!

Gross! Ew!! That looks like barf!

How often are you hearing this negative food talk?

Comments like these are common among the picky eaters I work with when they encounter new and non-preferred foods.

I don’t have to tell you that negative talk doesn’t help your picky eater grow into a more comfortable one.

It’s hard to know how to respond. I always try to reframe, create something neutrality, and present a sense of future positivity.

I hope these phrases can help you.

For more direction on how to manage new foods with your picky eater and help them expand their diets, grab my picky eating ebook - link in bio! (And not just for kids with ASD!)
