The Disney Channel star’s family released a statement confirming his medical condition, which led to a fatal seizure over the weekend. In the U.S., about 2,600 people a year die from a disorder known as sudden unexpected death in epilepsy.

This is what an EEG/electroencephalogram looks like. This is a recording of the brain waves. We like to see that brain wave activity when a patient is sleeping and awake and we also try to stimulate any hidden abnormalities by making the patient hyperventilate or flashing strobe lights. A normal EEG, does NOT rule out epilepsy (epilepsy = tendency to have seizures). Also, if someone has an abnormal EEG but no other suspicion for seizures, we have to be careful of how we diagnose and treat them.
