What started in 2017 as a small clothing closet at Jefferson Frankford Hospital has grown into a compassionate, multi-campus initiative—now known as the Discharge with Dignity Program.
Across Jefferson Torresdale, Frankford, and Bucks Hospitals, patients in need are provided with clean clothing, hygiene items, and comfort essentials to support them as they transition home.
At Jefferson Torresdale, the initiative includes a welcoming Discharge with Dignity Lounge, offering patients a private space to freshen up and select items that help them leave feeling comfortable and cared for. The Torresdale team also expanded the program in 2024 to address food insecurity through a residency-led project, providing 72-hour food packages and local resource guides for patients identified during admission. Meanwhile, Frankford Hospital contributes fresh produce from its Garden of Giving during the spring and summer months.
Thanks to bake sales, donation drives, community partnerships, and a $100,000 gift from American Heritage Credit Union establishing the Jefferson Northeast Patient Support Fund, the program continues to grow and make an impact.
We’re proud to share that the team was recognized as a Healthcare Disparity Runner-Up in the I Am Patient Safety Awards by the Patient Safety Authority—an honor that reflects their commitment to equitable, compassionate care.
Together, we’re helping patients leave our hospitals with more than just treatment—they leave with dignity, comfort, and hope. 💙
