"El Camino currently has the most lactation rooms on a single college campus compared to other institutions across Southern California. Other colleges may have more lactation rooms in total but there are in separate campus locations.

This comes five years after the passage of Assembly Bill 2785, which requires California community colleges to “provide reasonable accommodations to a lactating student… to express breast milk, breast-feed an infant child, or address other needs related to breast-feeding.”

When Jessica Euyoqui first enrolled at El Camino College in the 2002 summer semester, she was a 17-year-old single mother with a daughter. Less than a year later, she dropped out of school. “Honestly, I didn’t know what I was doing. As far as services and community, I was not exposed to much to ...

To best support all learners, university decision-makers must consider the needs of this unique student population when designing facilities, training student services staff, and welcoming new and returning students to campus."

"The Department of Education has delayed the enactment of new Title IX regulations until this October. The regulations, which would have explicitly required lactation support for students and employees, were expected in May. The Pregnant Scholar Initiative at WorkLife Law will continue to fight for students and staff to be protected under existing law, though we are distraught that this delay will place more families at risk. Read our coalition’s original letter (linked below) on the proposed regulations here and stay tuned for more upcoming advocacy opportunities.

Who we are...

Thank you for visiting! We are a coalition of students, community members, nurses, lawyers, and organizations who want to support parenting students in their positive parenting choices. We recognized a while back that some parents are forced to choose between giving their own milk to their babies and going back to school. They should be allowed to do both. Seamlessly.

If you are breast/chest feeding your child and have questions about returning to school, you are in the right place. Welcome!
