Are you afraid of change?

Change can feel unsettling, especially when it arrives uninvited. But what if instead of bracing against it you gently turned toward it?

Your capacity to adapt is not something you need to build from scratch. It's something you already carry.

Sometimes the first step isn’t action—it’s willingness.

Are you feeling absorbed by a current challenge, dreading an upcoming change, or simply wondering how to navigate change with greater ease? If so, you're not alone.

Join Eileen Caroscio, and Jan Zacharjasz for a practical conversation about your resilience on Thursday, April 30 from 12-1 pm ET, 9-10 am PT, to give you the edge you need in times of change.

Cartels, Blizzards, and Crocodiles … Our Vacation Had It All

A few weeks ago, my husband and I escaped to Puerto Vallarta for some much-needed rest.

We beat a massive Northeast blizzard by one day, landed in sunshine, and settled into our resort.

The next morning? The town went into lockdown due to cartel violence. Roads and the airport closed. Smoke from burning vehicles filled the distance.

Resort staff worked heroic triple shifts. Food deliveries stopped. Guests were stranded.

By Day Three, things normalized. We chose to stay on the resort grounds, grateful to be safe.

Then Day Four brought another twist:

The beach closed.

Why? Crocodiles had migrated to our stretch of ocean. At that point, all we could do was laugh!

Looking back, we still accomplished exactly what we came for — rest, connection, sunsets, good food, and time together.

Was it the vacation we expected? Not quite.

But it reminded me:
When life takes an unexpected turn, you have a choice.

You can focus on what’s wrong — or notice what’s still right.

We chose to feel lucky.

The next time your plans unravel, pause and ask yourself:

What is still working?
Where am I lucky right now?

These small anchors can steady you — even when life serves blizzards, cartels, … and crocodiles.

Winter Blues Finale 🌸

As winter begins to loosen its grip, here are two simple resilience habits that can help lift your energy and mood:

🔹 Boost Your Mood with Food
Balanced meals with whole foods — proteins, grains, fruits, and vegetables — support both body and mind.

Even simple seasonal foods like citrus or roasted vegetables can make winter meals more nourishing and comforting.

🔹 Take a Break from Screens
Too much scrolling, especially through news or social media, can drain your energy.

Step away from your screens and reconnect with something hands-on — reading, cooking, or a creative hobby.

Small habits really do add up.

Which one will you try this week?

The good news? Spring is around the corner. 🌸

Feeling worn down by winter… and the world? You’re not alone.

When energy is low and days feel heavy, a shift doesn’t have to be big — just intentional.

Notice and Celebrate Small Wins — even tiny progress matters.

Try an “All Done” list to complement your “To Do” list. Every time you finish something, write it on your “All Done” list. Place it where it’s easily visible to you. Your brain loves to SEE progress-- it boosts motivation and momentum.

Invite More Laughter — it lifts mood, relieves tension, and connects us.

Watch a favorite comedy, share a funny moment with someone, or invite friends to swap wins and laughs.

You don’t have to wait for “big” to feel better. Small actions create powerful ripples, replenishing your outlook and energy — especially when the world feels heavy.

Take a moment today to celebrate something good… and smile.

Feeling Winter-Weary? Reset Here.

Winter can be beautiful — and brutal.

Colder days. Longer nights. Fewer spontaneous plans. It’s easy to feel isolated or restless without even realizing it.

The good news? Small, intentional actions can shift how grounded, energized, and happy you feel.

This week, focus on two resilience habits:

1️⃣ Connect with Others

Winter shrinks spontaneity — that's why connection needs to become intentional.

Schedule the call. Plan the coffee. Host the potluck or game night.

And if you can’t gather in person? Send a handwritten note and see what a difference it makes -- for them and you!

Connection isn’t just social - it’s essential and medicinal. It builds the network of care that carries you through the tough times.

2️⃣ Rediscover Nature

Yes — even now. Especially now!

Layer up and step outside. Take a 10-minute sensory walk. Notice your breath in the air. The quiet. The wind. The light.

Those “outdorphins” are real — and even short bursts outdoors improve mood and reduce stress.

Winter’s stillness invites reflection. A simple walk can reset your perspective.

This week, take one small action:

📞 Connect with someone you’ve been meaning to call.
🥾 Bundle up and take a walk -- alone or with a friend.

Notice how you feel afterward. Small steps create real momentum.

You’ve got this, and I’m cheering you on!

Experiencing the Winter Blues? Try This.

As this long winter stretches on, it’s easy to feel weighed down by icy roads, gray skies, and limited sunlight. If your energy has dipped, you’re not imagining it — and you’re not alone.

The good news? There are simple ways to feel better.

Here are two easy resilience habits to try this week:

1️⃣ Stay Active.
Movement is one of the quickest ways to lift your mood. Even a brisk five-minute walk outside can boost energy and mental clarity.

If a full workout feels like too much, try short bursts throughout the day — gentle stretching, yoga, a quick Zumba session, or even dancing in your kitchen!

Each small burst of movement helps refill your energy reserves.

2️⃣ Bring Hygge Into Your Home.
The Danish concept of hygge (hoo-guh) reminds us to create warmth and comfort during darker months.

Light a candle. Simmer a pot of soup. Wrap up in a cozy blanket with tea and a good book.

These small rituals may seem inconsequential but when practiced consistently, they can steady your mood and restore your spirit.

As John Steinbeck wrote:
“What good is the warmth of summer, without the cold of winter to give it sweetness.”

When you intentionally create movement and comfort in your days, you’re doing more than enduring winter — you’re building resilience from the inside out.

What’s one small ritual that helps lift your energy this time of year?

Winter Blues? Conquer Them with These Simple Habits

Winter’s shorter days and frigid temperatures can take a real toll. If your energy dips, your mood feels heavier, or your sleep is off, you’re not imagining it. Many of us experience the winter blues as sunlight fades and cold weather takes over.

The good news? Winter blues are often relieved with simple, practical lifestyle changes.

And while we can’t change the season, we can change how we move through it. With a few resilience-building habits, it’s possible to feel more grounded, energized, and even experience more joy in the darker months.

In this mini-series, I’m sharing 10 simple resilience habits to help you conquer the winter blues. Let’s start with the first two.

1️⃣ Adopt a Positive Winter Mindset
Think like the Scandinavians who thrive through long, dark winters. Instead of resisting the season, embrace the crisp fresh air, dress warmly, and walk outside as often as you can.

Research shows that even short periods of time spent outdoors improves your mood and your physical and mental health.

Look for winter’s small pleasures: hot chocolate, a crackling fire, quiet walks in fresh snow. And give yourself permission to relax.

2️⃣ Light Up Your Life
Light matters. Soak up natural daylight by sitting near windows or taking short walks during daylight hours.

In the evening, create warmth with candles, soft lamps, or string lights. Add a blanket, a good book, and a cup of tea—and let your whole-body exhale.

“Winter is the time for comfort… it is the time for home.” — Edith Sitwell

Feeling Stuck Today?

A decision you’ve been avoiding.
A conversation you’re dreading.
A deadline that feels impossible.

When you’re worn out, it’s easy to spin your wheels and push harder. But sometimes the smartest move is simpler.

Take a walk.

Even five minutes outside can calm the noise in your mind and help you see your next step more clearly. Notice the colors around you. The sound beneath your feet. The air on your face.

Movement can become medicine.

Bundle up, step outside, and let nature do some of the heavy lifting.

You’ve got this. 🌿

What Made You Feel Spectacular This Week?

Not productive.
Not busy.
Spectacular.

That moment when you felt most energized, motivated, or proud?

It might be your nervous system--and your wisdom--telling you what you need more of.

When life is full of goals, obligations, and transitions, resilience isn't about just pushing through. Sometimes it's about noticing what lights you up . . . and giving yourself permission to do more of that.

So pause for a moment.

What did you do this week that made you feel spectacular?

And what would happen if you did more of that again next week?

Share in the comments--or keep it as a promise to yourself.

Are You Finding It Hard to Be Optimistic?

One of the gifts of a new year is the sense of a fresh start—an invitation to renew hope, optimism, energy, and motivation. As we move further into January, you’ve probably started on your goals for the year—whether related to work, health, relationships, or self-care. If so, that’s worth acknowledging. Starting matters!

And yet, for many of us, January doesn’t always go exactly as planned. Obstacles pop up, frustrations build, and it’s easy to lose momentum—especially when things feel outside of your control. Ugh!

Here’s the reminder we all need: fresh starts aren’t limited to January 1st. You can claim one anytime, especially after a setback. You’re allowed a do-over. You’re allowed some grace.

Optimism isn’t about pretending everything is fine. It’s that inner light that helps you keep looking for options, solutions, and next steps—even when
things feel hard.

This week, choose one concern or intention close to your heart and take one small step forward. Notice what happens. Let that be your fresh start.

“Optimism doesn’t mean that you are blind to reality. It means that you remain motivated to seek solutions.” — The Dalai Lama

Bonus: If you’d like some extra support, listen to the Honestly Aging Vigr® Podcast from Friends Life Care, where I appear as the featured guest. We talk about how resilience helps you feel more grounded and in control when things don’t go as planned.
