Welcome to March! This month, as the seasons begin their slow, persistent shift, we are turning our focus toward a theme that sits at the very heart of the "First and Only" experience: The Cost & Power of Leadership.

For many of the high-achieving women of color we serve, leadership is not a theoretical concept; it is a lived, daily weight. It is the experience of being the "1st after 100," the only one in the boardroom, or the first in a generation to break a cycle. While the world celebrates the milestone of your arrival, we at Be True Counseling want to hold space for the psychological reality of your survival.

Throughout March, we will be exploring leadership through the lens of Internal Authority. This is more than just confidence; it is the radical, psychological act of anchoring your worth within yourself—not in your performance, your perfection, or your proximity to traditional power. It’s about building a 'Narrative Shield' that protects your peace, allowing you to define success on your own terms.

We are here to help you move from a state of survival to a state of strategy, ensuring that your "Shine" remains undimmed. Join us as we run with Minty, stand with Attucks, and shine with the authority that can only come from within.

What an incredible journey this month has been! 🌟 February was truly a blast as we leaned into the power of Radical Joy and Resistance. We’ve spent these weeks learning that when the world feels harsh or challenging, we don’t have to wait for the outside world to provide happiness—we can create that softness and joy for ourselves.

Whether we were celebrating a century of legacy for Black History Month, sharing scoops of laughter at our Ice Cream for Breakfast event, or finding contentment in the small, beautiful moments like a new plant bloom, we’ve proven that joy is our most powerful anchor. We’ve practiced self-mastery through our affirmation rituals and learned to like ourselves enough to share inside jokes with the person in the mirror.

Thank you for being part of this "Beloved Community" and for choosing to lead with a full vessel. As we say goodbye to February, let's carry this radical joy into the next season! 🥂👑

Revisited this video from April 2024 because the power of a daily affirmation ritual never goes out of style. Affirmations create intentional spaces in our lives, transporting us to a place of serenity where we can truly govern our own peace.

As we're exploring Radical Joy this February, I’m challenging myself (and YOU!) to lean into the affirmations that feel the most uncomfortable. Often, the words we avoid are the exact ones we need to hear to dismantle shame and reclaim our inherent worth. Let’s use these tools to build a mindset that isn't just "positive," but powerful and resistant.

I’m revisiting this post from February 2024, and it’s the perfect energy for our current focus on Radical Joy. There is something profoundly healing about liking yourself enough to have inside jokes with yourself. Choosing to provide yourself with humor, support, and kind, constructive criticism is a radical act of self-mastery.

In a world that often asks us to mask our true selves, standing unmasked in your own joy is the ultimate form of resistance. You deserve a relationship with yourself that is as deep and meaningful as any other.

Still dreaming of sprinkles and smiles! 🍨✨ It’s been a few weeks since our Ice Cream for Breakfast Day at Mt. Airy Playground, but honestly, we still can’t get over how much fun we had. We sat down with some of our favorite guests—both kids and adults—to hear their takes on the best ways to celebrate this 60-year tradition.

From the "scoop-in-coffee" veterans to the kids who think a waffle is just a vehicle for more toppings, the message was clear: Choosing joy is a win for the whole community. Thank you for helping us practice Radical Joy and for supporting our local community programs through your generous donations. We’re already counting down to next year!

I was digging through the archives and found this reading from July 2022, and its message feels even more urgent today: Get it together—Joy and Abundance are waiting for you. As we lean into our February focus on Radical Joy, this throwback serves as a powerful reminder that choosing happiness is a form of resistance against the pressures that try to keep us small.

Whether you are navigating a season of "Change" or celebrating the "Friendship" in your VIP section, you deserve to live with a full vessel every single day. Your worth is inherent, and your capacity for abundance is undeniable.

I have been watching this beauty slowly arrive over the years until now, and it feels like a personal blessing. My plants continue to remind me that even in the middle of February, choosing a joyful presence is a powerful way to push back against the "low-voltage" energy of the world. Just like the oak tree in winter, these blooms show us that our strength is often built in the quiet, underground moments of contentment. I feel so grateful for this small, undeniable evidence of life and growth right on my windowsill.

Our Ice Cream for Breakfast Day event was a powerful reminder that creating joy, even in the middle of winter, is an act of resistance and collective healing. For over 60 years, this tradition has anchored our family, and it was such a blessing to share it with our Mt. Airy community this year.

From the endless toppings to the laughter shared over scoops, every moment was a celebration of what it means to be a "Beloved Community". Thank you to everyone who brought a topping, shared a bowl, and contributed to our local community programs. You are the reason our roots stay deep and our crowns stay straight!

Resistance is standing tall in the truth of your legacy. ✊🏽

Sometimes the most radical thing you can do is remind yourself—and everyone else—exactly who you are and where you come from. As we lean into February’s focus on Joy as Resistance, remember that your presence today is a direct result of a century of resilience. True self-mastery is knowing that your worth is inherent and that you are a high-performance masterpiece.

This isn't just a history lesson; it's the anchor that allows you to move through the world with your crown held high.

I’ve been sitting with the memory of a precious dish that belonged to my grandmother. When it broke, my first instinct was to cry—to mourn the loss of a tangible piece of her. But as we lean into our February theme of Radical Joy, I’m realizing that joy isn’t the absence of grief; it’s the resilience to find a new place for it.

Instead of attaching to the "brokenness," I’m choosing to meditate on the legacy she left behind. Choosing joy in the middle of a cold February is a radical act of resistance against the idea that loss has to define our current state. We don’t have to wait for Mother’s Day to honor our "mother figures" or the lessons they taught us about inherent worth. Have the day you want and need, Royals—you deserve the space to heal and the space to be happy.

I found this affirmation card floating in my bag today, and it felt like the perfect bridge from our January focus on habits to our February exploration of joy. While I originally pulled this out while waiting for the 2024 eclipse, the message hits differently in 2026: "Today I will get out of my comfort zone and try something I’ve never tried before."

Choosing to be adventurous isn't just about a one-time event; it’s about the daily practice of pushing back against the "low-voltage" environments that try to keep us small. Whether it's trying a new "Three-Song Reset" playlist or finally starting that project you've been overthinking, stepping out of your comfort zone is a radical act of self-mastery.

How are you practicing "adventure" as a form of joy this week?

February is finally here, and at Be True, we’re ready to lean into Radical Joy and Resistance!

This month, we are exploring how choosing joy is a powerful way to push back against the pressures of the world. We’ll be diving into the incredible work of Tracy Michael’l Lewis-Giggetts and her book, Black Joy, to find inspiration in collective healing and joyful presence.

This February, let’s explore: Radical Joy, Joy as Resistance and Self-Mastery. We’d love for you to join the conversation! What are you doing to create joy in your life this month?
