for board highlight ep4, we’re excited to introduce our vp varsity trainer Ashwin 🎭!! They are a rising sophomore in the College studying Philosophy and Economics and joined pds in their freshmen fall.
“what motivated you to join pds” - I did debate as my main extracurricular in high school and definitely wanted to continue doing it through college. I also knew a lot of the other people who were applying to PDS and they seemed like really fun, genuine people (which I was right about!)
“what’s your fav thing about pds” - My favorite thing about PDS would probably have to be the emphasis on community and fun during tournaments. Yes, winning and good performances are very important to us, but we also make sure that people are enjoying their time, making new friends, and cracking stupid jokes!
how would other board members describe ashwin (by alex): ashwin always looks out for everyone else’s mental health and wellbeing on the squad. i can’t count the number of times they’ve noticed someone looking down and asked them if they’re okay, or the times they’ve praised and reassured people after tough debate losses. they’re the loudest cheerer when anyone does well in a tournament, and they work their ass off running multiple training sessions a week to help others get constructive and kind guidance on how to improve. they always make sure that everyone is having a good time, and that’s the most important part of this activity!
