Getting comfortable moving on the ground is one of the most important steps in mastering the art of falling and recovery.

In our Bounce Back program, we teach this skill in a safe and controlled manner, building up our participants’ confidence and strength in case of a real fall.

Can you fall safely?

One of the most overlooked skills for older adults is learning how to fall backward without serious injury. Practicing controlled falling builds resilience, reduces fear, and protects long-term independence.

Falls can happen to anyone, and knowing what to do next matters.

In our Bounce Back program, older adults master the art of falling gracefully and recovering with control. But knowing how to fall and how to help someone recover isn’t just for seniors. It’s for the people who love and support them, too. It’s something families can prepare for together.

Part 2 of Yesterday’s Video on Safely Navigating Slippery Sidewalks!

As the ice and snow begin to melt, Philadelphia sidewalks can still be slick, uneven, and unpredictable. In this video, Judith Sachs, Director of Anyone Can Move, demonstrates simple, practical exercises older adults can do at home to build the strength, balance, and confidence needed to navigate winter-to-spring conditions safely.

These movements focus on improving stability, coordination, and lower-body strength — key skills for stepping over slush, adjusting to uneven pavement, and preventing falls. No special equipment required — just a little space and a commitment to staying strong and steady.

Watch, follow along, and take proactive steps toward safer, more confident walking this season. Your balance is trainable — and it’s never too late to start.

With the snow and ice finally melting a bit in Philadelphia, older adults are presented with new challenges as we navigate sidewalks, crosswalks, and stoops.

Check in tomorrow for Part 2 of this video where I will be demonstrating exercises you can do at home to help prepare your muscles and joints for these slippery surfaces!

Falling isn’t the problem — getting injured is.

Watch Dr. Salvatore Sandone of Zhang Sah as he teaches older adults how to perform a break fall in our Ukemi Project: Mastering the Art of Falling & Recovery. This technique protects vulnerable bones by distributing impact across stronger, softer areas of the body.

Through expert demonstration, clear explanation, and hands-on practice, our participants build skills that support safer movement and greater confidence.

Ukemi Project returns this Spring, and we have Balance & Fall Recovery classes going on year-round. Want to learn more? Visit our website here: https://anyonecanmove.com/balance-and-fall-recovery
