Your nervous system has different ways of protecting you.

Sometimes you get activated (fight or flight)
Sometimes you shut down
Sometimes it’s a mix of both

You don’t have one “state”

You have patterns that shift depending on what your system is predicting

And none of this is a problem.

These are protective responses.

When you understand your patterns, you can start working with your system instead of against it.

You cannot think your way to a regulated nervous system.

This sounds simple. It isn’t.

We live in a culture that treats the brain as the control center for everything. If you understand something deeply enough, you can change it. If you have the right insight, the right framework, the right words for what happened to you, you’ll be able to move forward.

But the nervous system doesn’t work that way. It doesn’t speak the language of logic or analysis. It speaks the language of experience, sensation, relationship, and repetition.

This is why someone can understand their anxiety perfectly and still feel anxious. Why can someone trace a pattern back to its earliest origin and still repeat it. Why insight, while genuinely valuable, is often not enough on its own.

What actually moves the nervous system toward regulation is accumulating small experiences of safety. Over and over. Until the system starts to update its operating system.

That’s a different kind of work. And it’s exactly what we’re going to talk about in the free workshop on Tuesday.

👉 You just have to be able to feel it.

Four words.

And somehow, enough.

This was how closed our conversation on The Spiritually Curious Therapist. After nearly an hour of talking about non-duality, embodiment, the divine feminine, spiritual bypassing, and the intelligence of the heart.

She distilled it all down to this.

Notice what you notice.

Not: Fix what you notice.
Not: Analyze what you notice.
Not: Figure out where it came from.

Just notice.

That’s the practice. That’s the entry point into everything else.

Your nervous system has one job:
to keep you alive.

It is constantly trying to figure out:
👉 “Am I safe?”

But here’s the part most people don’t realize…

It doesn’t just react to what’s happening.

👉 It predicts the answer
based on what it has learned before.

And once it makes that prediction…

it organizes your body
creates the feeling
and starts looking for proof it’s right

🔁 over and over again

So when you feel:

anxious
activated
shut down
disconnected

That’s not random.
And it’s not because something is wrong with you.

👉 It’s your nervous system trying to protect you
based on what it expects to be true.

This is why patterns repeat.
This is why insight alone doesn’t always change things.
This is why it can feel so real.

And also…

👉 this is why change is possible.

Because if your nervous system can learn a pattern,
it can also update it.
