Everything is a b**b in my world! Including this amazing lemon that I just found. My heat isn’t working, but I got inspired to share a little concept of bringing the baby in so their chin is mushed in right to the b**b or breast or chest. The ni**le, in this case the end of the lemon, might rest on the baby’s top lip or point toward the nose, but instead of just thinking about nose to ni**le as we often learn about just think about bringing the babies chin mushed in and watch how the baby will tip their head back and open their mouth wide And often come right in with that very wide open mouth. that ni**le should then be deep within the baby’s mouth all the way back where the soft palate is and therefore the ni**le should not be getting smooshed or mashed or gnawed upon. Remember that pain is a sign to get help right away. Pain is common but not normal. If you need help with infant feeding, lactation, breastfeeding, bodyfeeding you can always reach out to Boober for a lactation consultant, virtual or in person. We also teach an amazing Prenatal Lactation and newborn care class. Everything is at www.getb**ber.com. 🍋❤️ what little lactation tip do you have for anyone struggling??

thanks for reporting on this topic. We have been sharing these facts for over 20 years in childbirth class! To the pregnant community out there, we deeply encourage you to ask your midwife or doctor how you will be monitored if you are low risk? Will they be providing intermittent monitoring? Will they use the electronic fetal monitor or the handheld monitor, which is actually considered the gold standard. Will you be able to change positions despite the monitor? Do they have wireless monitors and are you allowed to walk around and use the shower? What if you want to be on all fours? How will the nurses and staff support you to find positions that are comfortable for you that allow you to be monitored ? When I took my Doula training 25 years ago, I learned that all of the evidence from ACOG was already in support of making sure that people were only monitored intermittently, if they were low risk. while sometimes continuous monitoring is very important in case of high risk pregnancies and during labor when the babies heart rate either changes significantly or exhibits worrisome traits or when the parent takes pain medication or Pitocin for instance, most parents are subject to continuous monitoring, even when it’s medically inappropriate. Please consider hiring a Doula who can help you advocate for yourself, change positions to keep labor going, and help you ask the questions you need of the staff to find out if intermittent or continuous monitoring is right for you in the moment. Boober, we’ve been helping parents find their right fit Birth Doula for many years and we hope that you will consider getting this type of life-saving emotional, physical and informational support for yourself. Remember in childbirth, you must always ask questions Don’t forget to ask about the risks, benefits, of all interventions before you choose them. And remember to ask 3 questions. Is baby ok? Am I ok? If answer is yes to both, you can feel confident asking for more time to decide. How were you monitored during labor?

Happy birthday to the girl who truly taught me childbirth, parenting and true LOVE. I still love that first photo showing the true relief after so much work in my 36 hour labor and all the anticipation and so many months of pregnancy and so much unknown! Transition. It’s a word we use a lot when we educate about childbirth (8-10cm and the most intense but usually shortest part of labor btwn dilation and pushing!). But now that I’m transitioning from mom with kid at home to mom w kid in college…well that’s another whole experience!! How I went from having a baby to have an 18 year old is impossible to fathom!! There will be moments in parenting of love, rage, joy, pain, confusion, excitement and endless more emotions. Labor is often our first real true teacher that we can’t control much in this world, so if I can share one bit of advice, the thing you can control is who you choose to support you during labor, who will assist with delivering your baby, where you will give birth, who will be your doula… so grateful i chose my midwife (who teaches our birth classes) and was my doula, to the OB who partnered with my midwife and said to me, I hope never to meet you again…I’m a surgeon and you don’t need me UNLESS you need me (his mom and grandma were both midwives so he truly understood the collaborative care model)…to her dad who sat behind me while I used the squat bar to effectively push (even with an epidural I was able to do many positions for pushing…with an asynclitic head (where my daughters head was slightly tipped to the side, changing positions and trying everything under the sun was critical to help get her out and in so happy the nursing staff was so helpful to rotate me thru so many positions….im also so grateful for my birth education from my friend who invited me to her birth and changed my life by exposing me to what birth could be like to who taught me my first doula training and opened me up to even more….anyway, if you are still reading I appreciate you being here! Happy birthday to my girl and happy birth day to me. And happy birthing day to all the parents who are in labor right now and soon to be.
