NewCourtland is a forward-thinking non-profit organization that seeks to serve and honor low-income seniors in Philadelphia. With roots stretching back to the Civil War, our organization has consistently examined Philadelphians’ most pressing needs and has fearlessly positioned itself on the front lines of serving those most vulnerable among us. Today, through a partnership of caring and services with our staff, we provide seniors with home-and community-based services, affordable senior housing, and skilled nursing care, which are designed to promote health and foster independence.

Today’s holiday party for over 80 kids from four local schools was a beautiful reflection of the shared commitment between NewCourtland, Max Kent, the 14th District Police Station, and the 14th District Advisory Council to our community. For many children, this event is more than a celebration—it’s a moment of care, connection, and true holiday joy.

On December 3rd Philadelphia Corporation for Aging hosted their 3rd Annual Golden Voices Festival at KleinLife Senior Center. This wonderful event was recently featured on 6abc’s Art of Aging segment. The piece highlights how senior centers choirs in Philadelphia help older adults celebrate the spirit of the season, stay connected, and combat loneliness through the power of music.

The segment showcases choirs from Star Harbor, Southwest Senior Center, Lutheran Settlement House, On Lok, KleinLife, St. Edmond Senior Community Center, Northern Living Center, and Philadelphia Senior Center Arts & Coffee Cup Branches.

Fostering Creativity at NewCourtland Philadelphia Senior Center
Medical students from the University of Pennsylvania led an inspiring creative writing workshop at our Avenue of the Arts location. Members enjoyed exploring poetry, short fiction, and comic creation in a warm, engaging environment that encouraged imagination and self-expression.

We’re grateful to the Penn medical students for their enthusiasm and support, and we look forward to welcoming the WriteMinds Workshop back in the spring semester.
