Dr. Marlaina Nelson has practiced in Montgomery since 2019. After years of dedicated community service through brick-and-mortar veterinary clinics, she chased her dreams and launched this business to provide expert veterinary care for families in the comfort of their home and enhance her own ability to be involved in the community with her family. Mobile veterinary care complements traditional veterinary clinics by filling the need for personalized medical management for pets in your home while collaborating with local veterinary clinics to ensure your pet has the best life possible for as long as possible. PRMVS conducts wellness and sick patient examinations, puppy/kitten exams, vaccine administrations, preventative care needs, health certificates, microchip implantation, laboratory services, end-of-life and palliative care, quality-of-life assessments, in-home euthanasia, telehealth consultations, and more. We've partnered with local support veterinary clinics to conduct surgical procedures or other diagnostic testing that your pet may need. Dr. Nelson is available for appointments 3 days a week, typically Mon/Wed/Fri, during the initial phase of the business. As the business grows, she will see patients Monday through Friday. Call/text our business number at 334-746-4340 to request an appointment or through our website.

🦉Whooooo did Dr. Nelson see this week?🦉

We had the privilege of seeing some owls, hawks, a kite, and even a vulture for their routine wellness exams and vaccines. They are all our pets of the week because we couldn’t choose just one 😅🫣

These magnificent raptors are not only stunning to look at, but they play a vital role in our ecosystem! 🌎 Keeping them healthy through routine exams and preventive care (yes, even vaccines!) helps ensure they can continue to live long happy lives and educate the community.

We’re always honored to care for these amazing birds. What a week! 💙✨

✨Special reminder that we do not see exotics, this is a special relationship we have built with the amazing Raptor Ridge Wildlife Education 🤗

🩺💙 November is Pet Diabetes Awareness Month!
Just like humans, our furry friends can develop diabetes—and early detection makes a world of difference.

👉 Did you know?
• Diabetes is more common in middle-aged and senior pets, but it can occur at any age.
• Dogs are more likely to get Type 1–like diabetes (insulin dependent), while cats often develop Type 2–like diabetes.
• Increased thirst, frequent urination, weight loss, and appetite changes are some of the most common signs.
• With proper care, diabetic pets can live long, happy, healthy lives!

💉 How is diabetes treated?
• Daily insulin injections are the main treatment for most diabetic pets.
• Diet plays a huge role.
• Regular monitoring of blood glucose and routine vet visits help keep levels stable.
• Maintaining a consistent feeding and insulin schedule is key.

💛 If you notice your pet drinking more water than usual or losing weight unexpectedly, don’t ignore the signs. Early diagnosis and treatment can drastically improve quality of life.

📲 Give us a call if you’re concerned about your pet or want to discuss screening options. We’re here to help keep your pets healthy and thriving!

We had to save him before it was too late: Meet Newsom, a senior dog seeking a forever home 🥹

With resources and space dwindling in a municipal shelter, Newsom needed an escape plan. Senior dogs are often the last to be adopted, and the some of the first to be euthanized. We couldn’t let that happen.

Newsom🦴 had a check up with Pike Road Mobile Veterinary Services where he was sweet and tolerant and is now UTD on his current medical needs.

This 10 yr old boy is looking for a home to nap in 😴 He doesn’t know how to play with toys, he doesn’t chew his food, he is hard of hearing for low tones 👂🏼, his vision is changing (not blind but would benefit from glasses if he had that option), he’s got old man lumps, and he’s slow to get up in the morning 🌅

Newsom is by no means a puppy, but he was once somebody’s pet 🥺 Likely discarded for his age, he is loving and seeks out human touch. He is housebroken, crate trained, good on leash, indifferent to cats, great in the car (uses stairs like a pro), and he is good with dogs and visitors of all ages. Newsom would be best with dogs and humans that can respect his space as his vision can cause him to startle when things appear quickly near his face.

Newsom is now part of our Golden Paws Initative ✨ funded by The Grey Muzzle Organization! This means his adoption fee, pre-adoption vet visit, and annual core vaccines for the rest of his life will be paid for by us. We will also maintain an emergency fund for food and boarding assistance should his owner need it. We just need somewhere for him to rest his head for the rest of his days 🐶. If you’re interested in adopting Newsom, learning more about the program, or donating to our senior initiative, please visit https://www.rrarsquad.org/golden-paws!

🌎💛 Happy World Kindness Day! 💛🌎

Today is all about celebrating compassion, empathy, and the small acts of kindness that make a big difference — not just for people, but for our furry friends too 🐾💖

At Pike Road Mobile Vet, we see kindness every day — from a gentle pat during an exam, to comforting a nervous pet, to the love and care our clients show their animals at home. 💕

Let’s keep spreading that kindness everywhere we go — one wag, one purr, and one smile at a time. 🐶🐱

✨ Tell us — what’s one act of kindness you’ve seen or shared recently? ✨

🐾🎗️ November is National Pet Cancer Awareness Month 🎗️🐾

Did you know that 1 in 4 dogs and 1 in 5 cats will likely develop cancer in their lifetime? 💔 The good news is that early detection can make all the difference!

This month, we want to remind pet parents to:
✅ Schedule regular wellness exams

✅ Watch for new lumps or bumps

✅ Note any changes in appetite, energy, or weight

Cancer doesn’t always mean a hopeless diagnosis — many pets go on to live happy, comfortable lives with early care and treatment. 💕

Let’s work together to spread awareness and keep our furry family members healthy. 🐶🐱
