The UK Harm Reduction Hub is issuing an update that cychlorophine was found in syringes tested from Fayette County.
N-propionitrile chlorphine, more commonly known as cychlorphine, is a non-fentanyl-related synthetic opioid that was first identified by The Center for Forensic and Science Research & Education in August of 2024. Non-fentanyl-related synthetic opioids, sometimes referred to as NSOs (“new synthetic opioids”) are a diverse group of synthetic, or man-made opioids, that are structurally different than fentanyl and fentanyl analogues. Cychlorphine is part of a group of NSOs known as benzimidazolones, which also includes nitazenes like isotonitazene.
It is important to remember that cychlorphine is an opioid, and you should always to use naloxone to respond if someone looks like they may be experiencing opioid overdose.
Make sure to test - and use risk reduction tools.
