Flourishing Communities One area of focus is the intersectionality of three key areas for individual and community well-being: food insecurity, mental health, and chronic diseases.

Flourishing Communities, Inc., is a faith-based nonprofit focused on improving the quality of life for people of color negatively impacted by the social determinants of health. Specifically, the organizational objective is to address the bio-social and spiritual components of human health with the goal of creating a trajectory toward wellness. A key focus of the ongoing work of Flourishing Communities is situated within the Larimer and adjacent communities which have suffered from persistent economic, social and health disparities for several decades.

💬 Talk early, talk often

Don’t wait to seek help if you notice memory changes. Early detection opens the door to better care and gives families more time together. Too often, families suffer in silence until it’s too late to intervene—change begins with one conversation. Your health matters—don’t be afraid to demand answers and push for testing.

👶🏽 Teach the Next Generation

Children learn more from what we do than what we say. When they see us eating well, exercising, and prioritizing brain health, they carry those habits forward. Your example plants seeds that can grow into generational wellness and stronger communities. Don’t underestimate the power of your daily choices—they can shape your children’s future.

🤝 Community care is powerful

Isolation fuels dementia—but connection heals. Build strong support circles through church, family, and local groups to protect mental and emotional health.

Asking for help isn’t weakness—it’s strength, and it keeps both caregivers and loved ones from burning out. Let’s build networks of care so no one has to walk this journey alone.

🗣️ Break the silence, end stigma
In too many Black and minority communities, Alzheimer’s symptoms are brushed aside until it’s too late. Talking openly and seeking help early can transform outcomes for families. Silence only allows the disease to progress unchecked—your voice can change that. Don’t be afraid to ask questions, seek a doctor’s guidance, and lean on trusted community resources.
