Aphasia Community Support Pittsburgh Pittsburgh Translational Research Initiative ( ) has started aphasia community group!

We meet monthly for supported communication groups for people with Aphasia, their families, caretakers, and SLPs.

12/03 Recap:

-We started off with some updates:
β€’ Our Virtual Advocacy Meeting will be on 12/08/25 at 11AM. Our small groups will begin on 1/12/26 and our next big group will be on 1/14/26.
β€’ The Aphasia Social Group in Canonsburg will take place on Friday, 12/12 from 10am-12pm!
β€’ Our spring programming will run from Monday January 12 - Wednesday April 22 2026 and will include Monday small groups (Movie Club at 11am and Hobbies & Interedts at noon), and on Wednesdays, Conversation Group at 9am, Big Group at 10:30am, and Book Club at 1pm! πŸ“†
β€’ Our upcoming guest speakers scheduled for January include Dr. Jeff Johnson and Dr. Will Hula SLPs from VA Pittsburgh with current research updates on 1/21 🧠 and nutritionist, Shannon Frizzell, on 1/28 πŸ“πŸ₯¦
β€’ Keep and eye out for an official email of our Holiday E-Card! πŸš‚

β€’ Some exciting events we have coming up are our Wicked Movie Outing 🍿🎬 on Monday 12/1, our Pamela’s Breakfast πŸ₯ž, Big Group Holiday Celebration πŸŽ„, and last meetings of the semester on Wednesday 12/3, and our ZOOM Advocacy Committee Meeting on Monday, 12/8!

β€’ Our next PPA support group will be on 12/03 at 2pm! Our topic will be Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) with Christine Lepore, M.A. CCC-SLP, BCS-AAC, ICAN Talk Clinic

-Our guest speakers, Michelle Govan and Jean Royce from the Dementia 360 program at Presbyterian Senior Care Network talked to us about the 6 pillars of brain health! 🧠
-Mark brought an album to share some pictures of houses that he has painted! 🎨🏑
