Pittsburgh friends! Over the summer I will be offering in home feeding therapy individualized to meet you and your kiddo’s needs!

If you’re not sure if this is a good option for you, or have questions, email me. I didn’t want to overload this slide but I will be open and honest about whether this type of treatment model would be beneficial for you when we get the chance to chat about goals and your sweet little one.

Please share with any moms/dads who could benefit from some 1:1 attention to build confidence (theirs and their child’s) around mealtimes.

Woo hoo summer planning!!

🧠 Yinz guys know I love brain talk. I needed this reminder for myself because my 5 year old is working through some stuff and knowing the chemistry and the way the brain and gut work together helps me prioritize my efforts (and my worries, honestly).

🥰 If the brain stuff isn’t your jam, slide over to the last pic and see some ways to naturally release those neurochemicals that reduce stress - could be from sensory sensitivity, anxiety, poor sleep, tough day… whatever it may be.

🤓The nerd slides will intro the connection between the gut and the brain, why the gut bacteria is important in brain function, and why accessing those neurochemicals made in the gut is important for our stressed out kids.

🥗 I am not a dietician nor a medical doctor and will not recommend specific supplements. I do encourage you to look at your kiddos diet, consider what may be missing (veggies are a tough sell over here with Big E, so we do a vitamin). I’m currently ordering new probiotics to give them a try as well with both boys. It is FREAKING HARD to get a full balanced diet into a toddler and preschooler so I do use supplements. That is your decision and worth talking to your doc about! But, if that’s not your thing, even having yogurt daily can increase the good bacteria in your belly!

Drop a 🧠 if you love the sciencey stuff like me 🤩🤩

📣 Shameless plug… I am so absolutely ecstatic to be going live with Solid Starts] tomorrow at 1:30 EST to chat trauma, foster care, and picky eating.

💪My life as an OT gave me a theoretically and clinical background that I *thought* would make me no match for a picky eater in our house. I thought I would be 100% on my game all the time. Then… reality set in.

😣You never *really* get it until you live it. I made mistakes. I did things I swore I would never do (hello PB&J erry dang day…) but what I learned the most is that safety is higher priority than variety. Reducing the stress of the baby in your home is higher priority than the number of vegetables your kiddo eats every day.

👀If you can’t watch tomorrow when we are live, the replay will live on the Solid Starts] page. If you can be there live, send some ❤️ and ask questions!

It’s been awhile since I’ve posted something other than a Reel 🙃

If this spiked your interest, head to the blog for the full breakdown about -

❤️ WHY sensory play is 🔥
❤️ HOW to incorporate different senses into play
❤️ WHAT to focus on (hint… it has nothing to do with things to buy)

Seriously though the blog has ideas for all the senses, not just messy play and sensory bins 💁🏻‍♀️

👍 Starting outpatient OT can be such a great addition to your child’s support network. New blog post is up with topics to consider when searching for an OT.

🤝 Your child’s OT should work with you to develop a plan, communicate and share insight into what they are doing, and give realistic strategies to implement at home.

🤷🏻‍♀️ Honestly? The hour or so of time your child spends with that OT a week is not what’s going to make the difference. You need someone to come alongside YOU and help you carry things over into the real world, all while your child builds skills in therapy sessions.

👌 Like save and share with a friend and don’t forget to head to the blog for the full post on questions to ask when searching for a great OT for your kiddo.

🤗 Friendly reminder that you can make decisions you think are best for your family, and do not owe an explanation to anyone. Including Aunt Sally or Grandpa Joe or anyone else who tsk or rolls their eyes.

🤷🏻‍♀️ Don’t let judgy family members keep you from enjoying YOUR holiday.

🍁 I’m grateful for all of you and I hope you have a stress free, stretchy pants filled holiday! 🦃

💻 We all turn to Dr. Google now and then to diagnose ourselves and end up thinking we have a flesh eating bacteria or something insane. We also all know this isn’t… great… but muddling through the internet pages is part of the process for many many people when it comes to figuring out what is going on either with ourselves or with our kids.

Today’s blog is all about why autism and sensory processing are often connected in the Dr. Google searches for sensory dysfunction. I won’t give away too many spoilers, but the answer is more simple than you may think.

💪 The powers that be have created concrete ways to diagnose things related to brain function based on a big manual called the DSM (diagnostic and statistical manual). Some disorders fit nicely into this model and others don’t. Some aren’t included at all as a standalone diagnosis… ahem, sensory processing disorder.
