We’ve had 5/6 Sensory Storytimes at the Mt Lebanon Library! We provide fun sensory activities, engaging books, and education to caregivers including a walk on river stones as we enter the room, planted seeds and played in the dirt, talked about feelings and played in rice bins talking about calm down strategies, blew bubbles for oral sensory input, games and songs to increase body awareness, and shaving cream painting to name a few!! 1 more session Friday and another 6 week series beginning August 4th.

Check out www.homelearningstrategies.com and reach out if I can help you incorporate these sensory strategies and more into a sensory diet to help you and your child at home! I can also bring this programming to a library in the South Hills near you!!

First in a series of Friday Sensory Storytimes at The Mt Lebanon Library! We read books about flowers, insects and birds, used therabands to imitate the movement of insects (can you swoop and swirl with a theraband🦋🕊️??) for proprioceptive input, sang songs and moved our bodies, and then planted seeds… touching and smelling the dirt, to enjoy later at home🌺! So excited to share OT and provide sensory related programming in the community!

Fine motor skills are the ability to make small, precise movements with our fingers and wrists.

Here are some examples of when we use fine motor skills:
➡️ Writing
➡️ Coloring
➡️ Fasteners
➡️ Picking up small items (beads, coins)
➡️ Using tools such as utensils, scissors, rulers, glue sticks

Are your children or students showing any difficulty with these tasks?

Are you a teacher/school director concerned with a child's challenges at school?

Pediatric Occupational Therapy specializes in evaluation and treatment of children and adolescents with fine motor, visual motor, self-care, coordination, and sensory processing challenges.

We identify developmental concerns in these areas affecting optimal functioning and create specific treatment plans according to each child’s individual needs.

As a teacher, if you observe these issues with a child in your classroom, call us to complete an occupational therapy screening or a consultation.

We are here to provide education and resources to help make your classroom a more sensory-friendly environment.

Sensory processing challenges can affect crucial fine/visual motor skills, which we also assess for optimal learning.
