NEW MUSIC RELEASE!
For about a year now, I've been working on a fabulous new music project with two amazing creative collaborators.
The project is called Peculiar Velocities (and so is our EP) and it consists of myself on crystal bowls and vocals, Joseph Carringer on didgeridoo, and Garrett Finn on electronic compositions and synthesizers.
And when I say "new music", I mean new music. Truthfully, I've never heard anything quite like what the three of us have created, and it definitely doesn't sound like anything I've produced previously on my own or collaboratively either. And I'm super excited about that!
Many of you know me musically as a crystal bowl queen, as a singer-songwriter either solo or in bands, or as a kirtan-wallah leading trance-chanting experiences, but I've also been a long-time fan of electronic music. I love to get down on the dance floor!
And for years and years I've dreamed of integrating the organic and hypnotic tonal undulations of the crystal bowls into the EDM genre.
About a year and a half ago I went off to Massachusetts and created my own crystal bowl sound sample library at an old-school analog recording studio! That was an essential first step.
The next step in the journey was doing a proof-of-concept series of live experimental shows with Joseph here in Pittsburgh. Joseph has been playing didgeridoo for almost as long as I have been playing crystal bowls (30 years!!) and we have wanted to collaborate for a while. Since January of 2025 we've done a number of live events in Pittsburgh together and the vibes were high.
Garrett is an amazing dj and music producer in Toronto and he and Joseph have worked together many times before.
The three of us didn't exactly know what our combined energies would generate, but we had a pretty good sense it would be interesting and so we allowed it to unfold.
The result is a 4-track EP that takes you on a journey through rich sonic landscapes and multiple genres- ambient, down tempo, organic, cinematic, mind-expanding, hypnotic, trance, meditative.
We are super excited about it!
