One question I get all the time is:
“What’s the difference between an insurance-based chiropractic office and a self-pay (cash-based) practice?”
Here’s a simple breakdown:
Insurance-based care
Insurance companies decide what is “covered,” how often you can be seen, and sometimes even how you can be treated. Visits are often shorter, focused on billing codes, and limited by visit caps or pre-authorizations. Care is frequently designed to fit insurance rules—not necessarily what’s ideal for long-term improvement.
Self-pay (cash-based) care
Care is based on what you need, not what an insurance policy allows. Appointments can be longer, treatment plans more flexible, and the focus shifts to addressing root causes, movement quality, and long-term function—not just checking a box or getting you through a visit.
Neither model is “right” or “wrong.”
They are simply different.
What matters most is understanding how you’re being treated and why—and choosing the model that best aligns with your goals, whether that’s quick symptom relief or deeper, more comprehensive care.
If you’ve ever felt rushed, confused, or limited by your care, it may not be you—it may be the system.
