Women's Law Project (WLP) is a nonprofit, public interest law organization that defends and advances the rights of women, girls, and LGBTQ+ people nationwide—though primarily in Pennsylvania.

We cannot overstate how important their work is!
They use legal strategies like impact litigation, policy advocacy, public education, and direct assistance to fight gender discrimination, protect reproductive and LGBTQIA+ rights, inform responsible economic and educational opportunities for all, and work towards an end to violence against women.

Consenting and asking for consent are all about setting your personal boundaries and respecting those of your partner. This includes checking in if things aren’t clear, or if the situation has changed. Both people must agree to s*x—every single time—for it to be consensual!

Important reminder: PPWP services have not changed. If you happen to use Medicaid as your primary insurance, you should still come to your appointments as scheduled. We will work with you to ensure you get the care you need.

Anti-abortion Extremists
Origin: Western Pennsylvania
Taste: Bitter

We were enjoying a delicious coffee at Trace Brewing the other day, and learned a fun fact: while the number can vary, there are roughly 3,300 beans in a pound of coffee.

Interestingly, there are about 3,300 picketers who show up outside our health centers every year to try to grind down the spirit of every patient walking through our doors.

Instead of letting their harassment get us steamed, you have the opportunity to turn their presence into protection for critical s*xual and reproductive health care. Choose your pledge level at bit.ly/PledgePPWP

Do you stand with Planned Parenthood?
Spread the word: PPWP's doors remain open, and our services HAVE NOT CHANGED.

The world is a complicated place, but access to critical care shouldn't be. PPWP believes our patients deserve safe, affordable, and accessible s*xual and reproductive health care.
This is not up for debate.

(Remember: The best way to support Planned Parenthood is by becoming a patient!)

Getting a flu vaccine is the best way to prevent the flu and its complications for almost everyone!
You can quickly and easily schedule your annual flu shot at any of our health centers via our website.

A yearly flu vaccine is recommended for everyone age 6 months or older, and lowers the chances of having serious complications or dying of the flu if contracted.

This is especially true for people who are at high risk of flu complications, like:
Adults older than age 65
People in nursing homes or long-term care
Young children, especially those age 12 months or younger
People who plan to be pregnant, are pregnant, or give birth during flu season

(Make sure to as your clinician for a flu shot when you're here for any of our other critical health care services as well!)

Of course pumpkins support birth control access; they use the patch!

The Pittsburgh Zoo uses more than 3,200 real jack-o-lanterns each year during Pumpkin Fest. That's almost enough to carve one for every protestor that stands outside our health centers every year, trying to squash access to reproductive care!

These protesters feel empowered by the current extremist political climate, but we will not—we cannot—let them stop us.

You have the opportunity to light a flame, and turn their presence into protection for critical s*xual and reproductive health care. Choose your pledge level at bit.ly/PledgePPWP

Are you concerned about the accuracy of your child's s*x ed classes? Unsure how to ask what they cover?

Planned Parenthood has put together an advocacy toolkit made for parents who want their kids to get age-appropriate, fact-based comprehensive s*x education through their school. In fact, the vast majority of parents (80%) want their kids to learn about topics like consent, online safety, and healthy relationships in school so their children get the most recent information possible.
(Psst; Parents! It's okay to not have all the answers—that's part of why we're here!)

With rampant misinformation and political attacks threatening young people’s health and well-being, it's more important than ever to ensure that they're getting the right info from trusted sources, including school! Making s*x ed information clear, accurate, and non-judgmental is common sense.

These resources empower parents to push back against misinformation and speak out in support of the comprehensive s*x education all kids deserve to prepare them for their best possible futures.

Do you know what day it is? It's October 3rd.

Every year, more than 3,300 picketers show up outside our health centers to yell at patients, wave graphic signs, and spread lies and misinformation about reproductive health care.

If each of them were turned into a piece of paper, and used to collect all of your clique's hottest goss, the resulting Burn Book would be 6.5" thick, and weigh more than 5 pounds!

With the new Pledge A Picketer program at Planned Parenthood of Western Pennsylvania (PPWP), you can turn every protestor page of secrets into sliding-scale and no-fee services for our patients! Choose your pledge level at bit.ly/PledgePPWP

Medication Abortion (also known as the Abortion Pill) is offered up to 11 weeks and 0 days after the first day of your last menstrual period. It is a safe and effective way of ending an early pregnancy. *Abortion is legal in Pennsylvania.*

If you need assistance finding abortion services or think you might be pregnant, call 412-562-1900 or schedule an appointment at ppwp.org. We can provide you with options to make the choice that is right for you, your body, and your future.

In the most common Medication Abortion scenario first, you take a pill called mifepristone. What's Mifepristone? Pregnancy needs a hormone called progesterone to grow normally. Mifepristone blocks your body’s own progesterone, stopping the pregnancy from growing.

IMPORTANT: Mifepristone is safe, legal, and has been used by more than 7.5 million people for abortion and miscarriage care since its approval by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) TWENTY FIVE years ago.

After the Mifepristone, you take the second medicine, misoprostol up to 48 hours later. This medicine causes cramping and bleeding to empty your uterus. It’s kind of like having a really heavy, crampy period, and the process is very similar to an early miscarriage.

Overwhelming evidence proves that medication abortion is safe and effective for ending a pregnancy, with a serious complication rate of less than 1%.

FACT: Acetaminophen, the main ingredient in Tylenol, is a safe and effective option for pain relief and fever control during pregnancy, and does not cause autism.

FACT: Mifepristone, a common drug used in medication abortions, has been rigorously tested and proven to be a safe. Studies have shown that there’s no risk to your future pregnancies or to your overall health, and that Mifepristone does not increase your risk of breast cancer.

FACT: The baseless attacks on common, safe, reliable, and accessible medications are yet another attempt to spread misinformation and scare Americans away from seeking health care.
