You’ll often see something a little different at Making Strides—no saddle required. 🐴
Unmounted or “groundwork” activities are a meaningful part of what we do, and they’re woven throughout many of our programs—from equine-assisted learning sessions to workshops, camps and even traditional lesson time.

While participants build skills like grooming, leading and connecting with our horses, they’re also gaining so much more. Groundwork helps them develop confidence, communication and trust as they learn to guide a horse using their voice and body language. It strengthens coordination, balance and motor planning in a natural, engaging way, while also encouraging patience, emotional awareness and problem-solving.

These experiences create a calm, supportive environment where each child can grow at their own pace. Sometimes the most powerful progress happens with two feet on the ground. 💛

🐴📖 Horse Powered Reading® is off to a great start!

With the help of Little Buddy (“LB”) and Apple Jack, students jumped right into hands-on learning—connecting with their “books” (horses), building their own Road to Reading and exploring what it means to be a strong reader.

They wrapped up the day by creating journals and sharing their interests, setting the stage for meaningful learning in the sessions ahead.

We can’t wait to watch their confidence and skills grow!

April is Autism Acceptance Month 💙

At Making Strides Foundation, we see the power of connection, individuality and growth in every rider we serve. This month—and every month—we’re committed to creating spaces where all abilities are respected, supported, and celebrated.

Let’s continue to:
💙 Celebrate differences
💚 Build inclusive communities
🧡 Support independence and confidence
💛 Honor individual strengths and interests
💜 Listen, learn and amplify Autistic voices

Because acceptance isn’t a moment—it’s a mindset.

Small moments, big strides. Every connection, every movement, every smile—building skills, confidence and joy one ride at a time.

Behind each stride is a story. Hear from our families, volunteers and staff as they share what Making Strides Foundation means to them—while our riders show us the impact in action. 💛

Watch and see how we’re building community, one stride at a time.
