This is a great opportunity for new and returning volunteers to get prepared, review important updates and feel confident heading into the season ahead.

Our group visits offer engaging opportunities to learn all about horses through interactive activities, creative horse-themed crafts and meaningful time spent in nature—while fostering friendship, inclusion and teamwork.

🐴 Learning Happens One Brush Stroke at a Time

As our horses begin to shed their winter coats, grooming becomes more than just care — it becomes an opportunity for connection and learning.

Equine Assisted Learning (EAL) is an experiential approach that partners people with horses to support the development of important life skills. Through hands-on activities like grooming, participants build self-awareness, practice communication, develop respect and strengthen confidence in a calm, supportive environment.

Horses offer immediate, honest feedback, helping participants better understand emotions, boundaries and relationships — all without judgment.

At the Making Strides Foundation, EAL unmountedsessions are available for individuals and groups and are thoughtfully tailored to meet each participant’s goals. Programming is facilitated by a licensed social worker certified through the O.K. Corral Series in Equine Assisted Learning.

Sometimes growth looks like teamwork, patience… and a whole lot of horse hair. 💛

Volunteers are the heart of Making Strides Foundation. From assisting during adaptive riding and therapy sessions to helping care for our horses and encouraging riders as they reach their goals, volunteers play an essential role in every program we offer. No horse experience is required — just patience, compassion and a willingness to help.

Snowy days at the barn have a special kind of magic ❄️✨ Our horses have been loving their time outdoors, bundled up and enjoying the quiet beauty of the season.

While this seasonal chill brings a lighter schedule, we truly miss seeing our adaptive riding and EAL clients as often during these winter weeks. Pampered Ponies Night

This past week, our staff and volunteers spent time loving on our therapy horses during the winter season. With colder weather and a lighter schedule, the evening focused on enrichment and connection—pairing volunteers with our horses for structured grooming, gentle movement, stretching, and ThermaPlate treatments. The barn was calm and purposeful, filled with well-deserved attention for the horses who give so much all year long.

As we look ahead to spring sessions, volunteer support remains essential to keeping our program running. Opportunities like this—and during regular lessons—are a meaningful way to be part of our barn community.
