Sweetwater's founder and owner wrote a piece in today's Pittsburgh Post-Gazette on four bills in the PA legislature that could protect healthcare for all Pennsylvanians.

These bills will:

1. require insurers to keep young adults on their parents' insurance until 26

2. keep insurers from denying coverage for pre-existing conditions

3. prevent insurances from imposing cost caps on care

4. require insurers to fully cover the costs of preventative healthcare

We are pleased to announce that Lauren Andrews, MD is now in network with Highmark at Sweetwater. Dr. Andrews is a board-certified child and adolescent psychiatrist who provides psychiatric services to children and young adults age 5-26. In addition to Highmark, she also accepts Aetna, UPMC, United.

Two of our psychiatric nurse practitioners also have openings for new patients:

Madison Plasket, DNP, CRNP, PMHNP-BC has extensive experience providing psychiatric care to medically complex adults, and is also interested in working with adults with anxiety disorders, mood disorders, and ADHD.

Bethany Porter, DNP, PMHNP-BC sees adults and has significant experience with eating disorders across various levels of care. She is also interested in women’s health, including pregnancy and postpartum psychiatric management.

Madison and Bethany are both in network with Aetna, Highmark, UPMC, and United.

Sweetwater is now collecting diapers and period products for the Center for Hope!

Please stop by and donate in our lobby during office hours (Monday-Friday 9-5 or by appointment) and we will pass along donations each month. This is a great opportunity to address a very real need in our community and provide families with much-needed supplies.

Sweetwater is thrilled to announce that Dr. Lauren Andrews has joined our staff as a full-time child and adolescent psychiatrist. Dr. Andrews is a double board-certified psychiatrist, specializing in both adult and child/adolescent psychiatry. She earned her undergraduate degree from Vassar College and went on to complete her medical school prerequisites at UC Berkeley, where she also conducted research in molecular imaging at Stanford University. Dr. Andrews received her medical degree from Northwestern University's Feinberg School of Medicine in 2014. She then completed her residency and fellowship in 2023 at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, where she served as Chief Resident of Psychotherapy in her final year of training. Dr. Andrews is dedicated to a comprehensive, multi-modal approach in her practice, offering therapy, medications, and supplements to support children and their families. She is excited to partner with you and your child on the journey to better mental health.

Currently she provides out of pocket evaluation and management services and is in network with Aetna and United/Optum. We are currently in the process of credentialing her with several other insurers, so stay tuned.

We are excited to announce that Ellen Majersky, PMHNP-BC has joined the team here at Sweetwater! Ellen is a board certified psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner and will be seeing adult patients at Sweetwater. Her clinical interests include women's health, the treatment of eating disorders, and anxiety/mood disorders.

Currently accepting Aetna and UPMC patients, more to come soon!

We are thrilled to announce that Alexandra Salerno, LPC has joined us at Sweetwater! Alexandra utilizes evidence-based practice to service individuals seeking therapy services and is trained in Cognitive and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Prolonged Exposure Therapy for trauma-informed care, and Family-Based Therapy (FBT) for adolescents struggling with an eating disorder. Alexandra has experience in treating Eating Disorders, Anxiety Disorders, and Mood Disorders with both individuals and within families. Alexandra enjoys working with body image concerns, sports counseling, and adolescent concerns. She approaches therapy from a solution-focused lens, and works to collaborate with her clients on their care. She is currently able to see clients with Aetna, United/Optum, and UPMC. Welcome, Alexandra!

We are excited to announce that Sweetwater will be putting on a one-day workshop on Friday, September 29, that will focus on interdisciplinary eating disorder (ED) assessment and treatment for therapists who don't specialize in EDs. We are partnering with Pitt and will get 5.5 CEs for LSW, LCSW, LMFT, and LPC participants.
