WHY WE X-RAY:
43 yr old male with neck pain & stiffness after a fall 2 weeks prior. I found this C5 vertebral body fracture on x-ray & immediately ordered an MRI.

Initial MRI Results: “No evidence of acute fracture.” 😮🤯🤷🏼‍♂️🤔

Not believing these “results,” I phoned the patient asking to see the MRI images provided by the imaging center. The very 1st scans showed (& proved) what I believed to be almost a complete burst fracture of the C5 vertebral body.

We called the imaging center questioning their findings & waited 2 DAYS (!!!!) for the response that they had “missed it.” Even worse…the medical radiologist reading this study teaches medical radiology at a prestigious medical school.

I, personally, wrote the Rx for the MRI noting “C5 Vertebral body fracture” as the probable/suspected diagnosis…& they STILL missed it.

2 medical radiologists called me back regarding their mistake. I questioned BOTH of them what they thought would have happened had I trusted their findings & adjusted the patient…both fell silent & ominously responded “ugh…that would have been REALLY bad.”

FACT: If this patient been adjusted without knowledge of this fracture he could’ve been a quadriplegic or dead.
