We need to talk about the way we use mental health words. Not every difficult situation is trauma. Not every boundary is toxic. Not every mood shift is bipolar.

When we overuse these words, we water down their meaning and make it harder for people who are actually experiencing them to feel seen and understood. Instead of labeling, try describing what the behavior feels like:

āž”ļø ā€œThat comment felt dismissive.ā€
āž”ļø ā€œI felt hurt when you did that.ā€
āž”ļø ā€œTheir mood changes quickly.ā€

The language we use matters. Let’s use it to build clarity, not confusion. šŸ«¶šŸ¾

Healing is about you. It’s about choosing peace over bitterness. It’s about releasing the grip your past has on your present. It’s about taking your power back, one step at a time, even on the days it feels messy.

If you’ve ever thought ā€œI’m not healing because I still feel pain,ā€ this is your reminder: Healing is not a straight line. It’s a journey, not a finish line.

Healing isn’t always quiet. Sometimes it looks like screaming, crying, or sitting in the pain you’ve been avoiding for years. Real healing requires you to feel it, not just fix it. Let yourself break if you need to—because that’s where the release begins. That’s where freedom lives. šŸ’›

I often remind my clients: You’re not doing the work to be accepted again. You’re doing it so you stop abandoning yourself for acceptance.

If you’ve ever felt like healing means letting go of the familiar (even when it’s painful), you’re not alone. And you’re not doing it wrong.

When survivors like Cassie come forward, the internet gets loud with harmful comments. And while I’m shocked by the negativity, I’m not surprised. We live in a world where Black women are often the most disbelieved, disrespected, and dehumanized.

But here’s the truth: abuse is complex, calculated, and often invisible to everyone except the person living through it.

This post is a reminder that judgment is easy when you’ve never had to survive what she did.

As a therapist, I’ve seen how trauma, fear, and manipulation can trap people in cycles that take years to escape—and even longer to speak about.

So before you comment on someone else’s survival, ask yourself: Am I making space for truth and healing—or adding to the silence that keeps survivors stuck?

As a Haitian-American woman, I grew up with so many unspoken rules about love, relationships, and womanhood. But just because it was familiar doesn’t mean it was healthy.

As a therapist, I’ve come to understand how many of those ā€œnormalā€ behaviors were actually coping mechanisms, rooted in generational trauma, cultural expectations, and survival strategies. What I grew up seeing as love was often self-abandonment, silence, or emotional suppression.

Which one hit the hardest? Let’s talk about it.
