Introducing The Devoted Honey Company!

As much as we loved our name, SWEETZ-N-STINGZ, we have made a decision to rebrand our apiary and honey company to the Devoted Honey Company.

The main reason for this decision came down to brand confusion. Gina and I always thought that SWEETZ-N-STINGZ was a cute play on words related to honey (SWEETZ) and bees (STINGZ). On the surface, the meaning and play on words seem very straight forward.

While we still like our original name, it has become more apparent, through markets and other interactions with customers, that not everyone understood what we were going for with our name. We entertained numerous questions about what SWEETZ and STINGZ in our name stood for, including whether or not I was STINGZ and Gina was SWEETZ or vice versa. Other times, we heard issues with mispronouncing our name or saying it too fast that it became a tongue twister.

Successful businesses understand the need for change when brand and image distract from the amazing product(s) and/or service(s) they produce or provide. Therefore, while Gina and I still love the fun and unique nature of our SWEETZ-N-STINGZ name, we are retiring it for now. Never say never, it could pop up now and then for special reasons or events.

Having said all that, only the name is changing. Everything else remains the same...SAME great honey, SAME great bees, and SAME great beekeepers.

Maple is part of the team at MSU’s Pollinator Performance Center doing critical pollinator research and education. A retired police K-9, she uses her super sense of smell to detect bacteria in bee colonies to help prevent disease from spreading.

Currently, beekeepers must manually inspect colonies for disease, but dogs like Maple can identify disease much faster, which could make a big impact on the industry.

This project is one of many occurring at the Pollinator Performance Center. Operating since 2021, the center allows MSU to be at the forefront of honeybee and other pollinator research.
