Although my initial professional training inevitably landed me a job in a communications department of corporate America I have always had a great passion for holistic self-care, alternative healing modalities and the power of compassionate care. Born in Germany, south of Munich in Bavaria, I was exposed to natural and herbal healing modalities at an early age. After moving to the US in order to pursue a career in the field I had trained for, I soon realized that my true calling was not following the ups and downs of the financial markets, but to take care of those around me with compassionate and educated touch. In December 2010 I graduated from the renowned Swedish Institute, a 1000-hour Massage and Touch Therapy Graduate Program and was subsequently awarded licenses in New York and Connecticut. In 2011 I founded Treat Integrative Wellness Center with the intent to bring healing touch, holistic well-being and alternative self-help modalities to a broader public. A life-long seeker and learner, I became increasingly interested in integrating body therapies, physical activity, mediation and nutrition to form an integrative approach to wellness. So I continued my intitial education of Western and Eastern Bodywork with certifications in CranioSacral Therapy, Infant Massage Instruction, Reiki Healing, and Holistic Nutrition Counseling. In addition to many years of study and self-application, I have had the privilege of learning from some of the top leaders in the Alternative/Holistic Medicine, Nutrition and Wellness fields, including: Dr. John Upledger, Deepak Chopra, Andrew Weil, MD, John Douillard DC PhD, Diana Moore, MS, LMT, CIMI, and Reggie Winddancer Ceasar, Medicine Chief of the Matinecock Indian Tribe. My goal is to custom-blend alternative healing arts to help you heal and achieve your full potential and ultimate well-being.You only have this one body to live in. Karin

Change your habit of getting to work, sitting down, and staying seated until it's time to go back home. Try to get up every 30 minutes and stretch a little. Try to have 'walking' meetings. And, if you can, take that lunch break to get out and walk instead of spending it surfing online while chowing down that soggy over-prized deli sandwich (which is a whole different discussion for another post :). Small steps will benefit you in the long run.

Why do we feel listless when we are recovering from an illness? The answer is, apparently, that low-grade chronic inflammation interferes with the dopaminergic signaling system in the brain that motivates us to do things.

My parents lived good lives and expected to die good deaths. They exercised daily, ate plenty of fruits and vegetables, and kept, in their well-organized files, boilerplate advance health directives. But when he was 79, my beloved and seemingly vigorous father came up from his basement study, put on...
