Our goal this year is to develop people’s understanding of proximity and capability, and let it drive their training. Whether it’s training we as a company offer, or any of the many companies we refer you to for their training, we want to help you become a better protector in 2026.
Proximity to an assault is what should drive our decision making skills. It decides what actions we can take. An Active Shooter entering a building on the first floor, while we are on the second out above, allows us a little more time to develop a plan of action than if we were just inside the front door as they enter. Stress will be involved in both plans of action, but it will be more impactful on the first floor victim.
As proximity allows us less and less time, our capabilities come into the spotlight. We may want to run, climb, jump, crawl etc., but or we physically capable to perform those tasks?
When proximity has closed in on us, our final option is to fight. What is your capability to fight? Your fighting capability has many ingredients that you have personally mixed together throughout your life and training; mental capacity for violence, physical capability in violence, skills in fighting, time invested in opposed fighting, among many other factors.
Let 2026 be the year you develop your capabilities across a range of proximities.
