Mason County Prevention Coalition

Mason County Prevention Coalition Our Mission
We serve all children and their families. This meeting is open to the public.

We define “Family” as people who work together and take the responsibility for and care for one another by protecting, nurturing, supporting, and educating. The Mason County Anti-Drug Coalition is funded by a Substance Abuse Prevention and Treatment Block Grant of the WVDHHR Bureau of Behavioral Health. Prevention of drug use, including alcohol and drug use are centered around utilizing environmental strategies, social marketing and educational programs to address underage drinking and prescription drug misuse and abuse. The coalition is made up of volunteers in the community that represent health, law, education, community leaders, faith based centers, youth, parents, mental health and public health. The Mason County Anti-Drug Coalition meets monthly on the second Tuesday of each month at 4:00 pm at the Courthouse Annex Auditorium. Each meeting provides an educational component as well as planning for community events in the area of prevention.

There’s a reason the legal drinking age is 21. Early drinking carries risks no matter where it happens. Simply saying no isn’t enough. Talk with your child about why alcohol can be harmful and help them understand the consequences. These conversations give them the confidence to handle peer pressure and make choices that protect their health and future.

Child Abuse Awareness Month’s color is blue—specifically, a bright and hopeful shade that represents the innocence and strength of childhood. Wearing blue or displaying blue items is a simple but impactful way to show solidarity with survivors and support prevention efforts. From schools to government buildings, you’ll often see Child Abuse Awareness Month posters, blue decorations, and Child Abuse Awareness Month shirts featured prominently during April.
