We’re a local pediatric and family house call urgent care and wellness practice providing in-home visits for urgent care, sick visits, and well visits. We serve families in Ponte Vedra, Nocatee, St. Johns, The Beaches, St. Augustine, and surrounding areas.

Our PA-C and DNP providers bring healthcare straight to your home, where your child feels most comfortable. We test, treat, and provide compassionate care for babies, kids, teens, young adults, and even adult family members. From sniffles to stitches, we handle it all right in the comfort of your home.

This child’s mama knew something wasn’t right. Even though her baby didn’t have any visible signs of illness or injury, she trusted her gut and gave us a call. And we are so glad she did!

When our provider arrived, the only symptom mom could identify was fussiness and inconsolable crying — but we knew exactly what to check for. Sure enough, it was….

a hair tourniquet.

A hair tourniquet happens when a strand of hair wraps tightly around a tiny finger, toe, or other body part (like in the diaper area), cutting off circulation. Hair tourniquets are easy to miss, especially on babies with all their little rolls — but they can quickly cause swelling, pain, and restricted blood flow if not caught early. You can help prevent them by:

Checking often: Regularly check your baby’s fingers, toes, and diaper area for any loose or constricting hairs or threads.

Inspecting clothing: Check inside socks, mittens, clothes, and pajamas for loose hairs or threads before dressing your baby.

Washing clothes inside out: Washing baby clothes inside out can help prevent hairs from getting stuck in the fabric.

Incorporating checks into the routine: Make checking for hair tourniquets a part of your routine, like each time you do a diaper change.

Thankfully, this child’s mom knew something was off and acted fast. She trusted her instincts, gave us a call, and we were able to quickly find the cause and remove it before it caused serious harm.

Lately, we’ve been seeing a surge in flu (especially flu B), stomach bug, strep, and RSV. And unfortunately some complications and secondary infections like pneumonia, ear infections, croup, dehydration, and bronchitis.

With so much going around in our area, prevention is key:
✅ Wash hands frequently with warm water and soap
✅ Wash bedding and linens regularly
✅ Get outside for fresh air and sunlight each day
✅ Crack open windows at home to let air circulate now that the weather’s cooling down
✅ Use nasal saline mist and a humidifier at night
✅ Fuel those immune systems with nutrient-dense, colorful foods
✅ Keep sugar intake to a minimum
✅ Avoid close contact with anyone who’s sick or showing symptoms

We’re here if you need us…right in your home, where your family is most comfortable. We’ll get your kiddos (or you!) treated quickly and back on their feet so you can get back to enjoying the holiday season!
