Most People Miss This After Hiring a Coach
I have been in the fitness and nutrition industry for 25 years. When people hear that, they usually think, “Wow, that’s a lot of experience helping people get in shape.” And yes, that’s true. But what I have really gained over the last two and a half decades is a deep understanding of human nature.
I have worked with everyone. High performers. Deeply disciplined people. And people who are completely stuck in excuses and stories that keep them trapped.
I do not say that judgmentally.
I actually find it fascinating. Why do some people live lives marked by joy, progress, and victory, while others remain frustrated, defeated, and exhausted?
After thousands of conversations, patterns emerge. Very clear ones.
First,
people who succeed are humble and coachable.
They suspend their assumptions and follow the guidance of the coach, counselor, or leader they hired. Ironically, the most educated people are often the hardest to help.
Doctors, lawyers, engineers, scientists, coaches, and even some pastors tend to arrive with strong opinions that block growth.
Second,
successful people are attention oriented.
They take notes. They attend calls. They ask questions. And often, the conversation is not about food at all. It is about marriage, parenting, work stress, and emotional chaos. When those areas are unaddressed, progress stalls. Clear communication changes everything.
Third,
successful people understand this truth. The story that got you here will not get you there. Identity drives behavior.
You cannot fix a problem with the mindset that created it.
