ORVAN PROUDLY PRESENTS:
Matt Ostroff, MSN, AGACNP, VA-BC “Innovation: The Clinical Solution to Assessment”
Saturday, February 25, 2023 1100-1500
Lecture Description:
Join Matt for a live lecture spanning from neonatal to geriatric vascular access challenges and bedside solutions from peripheral to tunneled catheters. During this lecture we will explore strategies to expand the clinician’s scope of practice through data collection and the needs of your facility and patient population. It is Matt’s goal to inspire the audience to think outside of the box within the framework of the current vascular access guidelines and standards of care and answer the question, “what if?”
The lecture will be followed with lunch and an expert panel discussion comprised of regional vascular access specialists who have expanded their practice to include CICC insertion and more.
Lecture Objectives:
• Present an overview of the process for innovation in vascular access from the development of the Broviac catheter to the mid-thigh femoral catheter, and now bedside tunneled dialysis catheter placement.
• Describe the framework necessary to take effective steps toward expanding vascular access services to better meet the needs of patients and improve patient safety and outcomes.
• Present and explore alternative options to achieve realistic outcomes in complex vascular access situations from neonatal to geriatric patients.
• Participate in a live panel discussion with vascular access experts who are actively expanding their scope of practice. Discuss and identify strategies to effectively address challenges and obstacles.
Speaker: Matthew Ostroff is an advanced practice nurse working as the vascular access coordinator and lead clinician for the award-winning 2016 New Jersey Biz Healthcare Hero Award for Innovation, and the 2023 ANCC Magnet Award for Innovation vascular access program at St. Joseph’s Health specializing in patient populations spanning from neonatal to adults. After earning, the “Outstanding Graduate Award” from Drexel University in the Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner Track Matthew advanced his scope of practice under Dr. Mark Connolly, Chairman of Surgery. Matthew has had the privilege of sharing his vision of a multi-disciplinary vascular access service speaking throughout the US, Canada, Latin America, and Europe, with an emphasis on critical thinking with complex cases. Matthew was the proud recipient of the 2020 Herbst Award in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the art and science of vascular access. Matthew continues to innovate what is possible outside of radiology performing tunneled dialysis catheters at the bedside. Matthew’s book, Ultrasound Guided Vascular Access: Practical Solutions to Bedside Clinical Challenges was published in 2022 by Springer.
