Community Doula Alliance is a Black Woman-led, 501c3 nonprofit in Portland,Oregon that trains and supports doulas of color as they help families in their communities navigate birth & postpartum. Mission:
Our mission is to create an exceptional generation of professional doulas, particularly Black, Indigenous, Latino/a/x, Asian and other racially and linguistically diverse, underrepresented doulas, who can enter the workforce with sustainable careers, improve maternal and infant health outcomes, and meet the ever-changing needs of birthing and postpartum people. Vision:
Our vision is to decolonize the birth work profession and eliminate the gap in maternal-infant health disparities that disproportionally impacts Black, Indigenous and Latino/a/x communities. Strategic Goals:
• Increase diversity in the doula profession by training Black, Indigenous & Latino/a/x doulas as curriculum trainers and facilitators
• Bridge the gap between doulas and the Traditional Health Worker registry process
• Prepare Black, Indigenous & Latino/a/x doulas to succeed in the workforce by providing business training, mentoring, and a supportive peer community
• Ensure that underrepresented doulas make a livable wage by advocating for the value and effectiveness of doula services
• Improve maternal-infant health outcomes, particularly within Black, Indigenous & Latino/a/x communities, by providing long-term, culturally-specific perinatal, labor support and postpartum doula care
• Increase equity awareness in the doula profession through education, training and community forums using a racial and economic justice framework
• Collaborate and build sustainable partnerships with community-based organizations, policy advocates, local maternity care hospitals/clinics and community care medicaid funding organizations

If you’ve been craving connection, we've got you 💜

Whether it’s this weekend or at the ODA conference (where we’ve been named a Community Tides Awardee by the Oregon Doula Association), we want to celebrate alongside you!

This celebration is for the quiet work we all do even when no one is watching.

Because this work has always been carried by Black & Brown doulas who show up with inspiration, persistence, and steadiness…even when their work isn’t seen or recognized.

This honor reflects the community that makes this work possible—
the ones who came before, the ones doing the work right now, and the ones just beginning.

So let’s celebrate this together 💜

In honor of World Doula Week and Community Doula Week, we’re gathering this Saturday for Bagels & Birthworkers 🥯✨ A space to connect, reflect, and be in community with people who truly understand this work.

And we’ll also be celebrating at the upcoming ODA Conference in 2 weeks!

Send this to a doula you’d love to celebrate alongside and let us know if we’ll see you there!

Imagine being in labor and having to argue your medical rights with a judge on a video call.

Recent reports from show Florida courts are forcing pregnant people into unwanted C-sections, overriding birth plans and bodily autonomy in the middle of labor. A judge should never be in the delivery room deciding how a person gives birth.

And we all know the answer as to why it's disproportionately affecting Black mothers - say it with us...racism.

Small human. Big circle of care. 💜

This little one is proudly rocking a Douly Care bib because Douly support wraps around families in so man more ways than what you can see.

Douly care is about whole-family, wraparound support during pregnancy, birth, and postpartum beyond the 6 weeks.

The Douly Model has been created to provide:
✨ Access to care – helping families connect with the services they need
🧭 Systems navigation – making healthcare systems easier to understand and move through
👨‍👩‍👧 Family-centered care – honoring each family’s values, goals, and lived experiences
🌍 Community care – building networks of support that extend beyond one appointment
🪶 Culturally specific care – ensuring families are supported by people who understand and reflect their communities

Because when families are supported, babies start life surrounded by care, connection, and community.

And sometimes… that support even comes with a really cute bib. 💜

A quick fact check from some recent questions we've received...

We get it - it can be incredibly confusing when something is new and people just try to jump on the bandwagon without knowing the landscape.

Which is why we want to clear up this new term buzzing in Washington County’s perinatal circles: the Douly Provider.

If you’re a Doula, you might be asking: "Wait, does that mean I’m already a Douly?" Especially if you are also a Community Health Worker (CHW), you might think - "Hey, that sounds like me?!"

Well...not exactly! While it sounds similar, the Douly is a specific, integrated model of care designed with a focused model of care, expanded scope, and advanced training.

Here is the "Fact-Check" on what makes a Douly unique:

✅ The 2-in-1 Powerhouse: A Douly is dual-certified as a THW Birth Doula AND a Community Health Worker who takes an advanced perinatal training built on community-defined priorities.

✅ Expanded Scope: Most doula care ends at 6 weeks postpartum. A Douly stays by a family’s side from early pregnancy all the way through 12 months postpartum through in-home visits to ensure families get accessible health care. That’s a full year of consistent support!

✅ Integrated Model of Care: Unlike private-practice doulas, Douly Providers are part of a Douly Hub for specific "wrap-around" initiative in Washington County. They are going through a unique intake and match process with approved community partners.

Why does this matter? By combining birth advocacy with social service expertise, Douly Providers address the "social determinants of health" for the full year after birth that most clinical care often misses. It’s more than a safe birth—it’s about a supported first year of life.
