✨There is more than meets the eye with sclerotherapy. When do you stop injecting? How do you choose your next vein? Should you start more proximal or distal? What is the best angle to get inside the vein? Reliably inserting a 32 gauge needle into a tiny spider vein is harder than it looks but the results are so fun to share with patients. And I know what you're thinking "Wait a second, these aren't spider veins!" and you are absolutely right. While treatment of larger, varicose veins are generally a medical procedure requiring venous ablation, if the bulging veins are painless, they are considered cosmetic. Good candidates may consider sclerotherapy of these veins. One of the many reasons the initial consultaion is so important for procedure planning and expectation setting. Last week I had the privilege of being interviewed on KOIN 6 AM Extra to talk about sclerotherapy. I have been working hard to build the sclerotherapy practice at the NW Portland Inovia Vein Specialty Center and have been seeing some amazing results.
