When I first moved to Norway, friends kept asking: “Are you the only Black person there?” “Is it just polar bears and snow?” “Do you have any friends?”

Living here has been challenging and beautiful. New language, new culture, completely different way of life. It’s stretched me and reminded me what really matters.

Luckily, I have an incredible wife and two amazing kids pushing me to keep growing.

Some days I still feel like a complete outsider fumbling through conversations. Other days, I’m humming Norwegian songs I’ve discovered or celebrating because I actually understood what my neighbor just said.

Here are 14 things most Americans don’t know about Norway 🇳🇴

1. No polar bears walking around (that’s Svalbard, not mainland Norway)
2. Yes, there are Black and Brown people here and I’ve made amazing friends
3. Norwegians live for the outdoors, rain or shine
4. Work-life balance is real here. Family time is sacred
5. Sundays are for slowing down. Most stores close
6. Norwegian is tricky, but I’m celebrating every new word I learn
7. Kids spend tons of time outside, even in freezing weather
8. The fjords really are that breathtaking
9. The northern lights are real, but you need patience, clear skies, and a lot of luck to see them
10. Coffee is practically a national treasure. Strong and always flowing
11. Norwegians seem reserved at first, but once trust builds, friendships run deep
12. May 17th (Constitution Day) is their July 4th. The whole country celebrates with parades, traditional clothes, and serious national pride
13. At least in Aureosen where I live, being a farmer is basically equivalent to being a rockstar
14. I’ve discovered Norwegian artists and music I genuinely love (not just because I live here)

I’m grateful for this season. The challenges, growth, and new perspective.

The #1 regrets people carry at the end of life aren’t about mistakes they made.

They’re about the dreams they never chased.

Bronnie Ware, an Australian nurse who spent years with the dying, discovered that the most common regret was this: “I wish I’d had the courage to live a life true to myself, not the life others expected of me.”

For so many people, that “true life” includes a story they never told. A book they never wrote. A piece of wisdom they never shared.

I keep thinking about how many times I’ve heard someone say, “I’ll write that book someday.”

Someday… until the years pass. Until the story sits trapped inside them.

Imagine yourself 10, 20, 30 years from now, what would you regret not putting into the world?

For me, the most painful thought is that some of the most powerful voices never get heard, not because they didn’t matter, but because they stayed hidden.

I can’t shake the thought that maybe it doesn’t have to be that way.

It’s been almost five years since my dad passed away, and honestly, I spent a lot of that time wondering why God only gave me two years to really get to know him. But then I realized, if I’d never found him, I wouldn’t have met my five siblings, wouldn’t have gotten to speak at TEDx, wouldn’t have helped him write his book. All these incredible experiences that I’ll carry forever.

I really don’t believe in coincidences. When I left my corporate job in 2023, I had so many false starts. But I figured out that I feel most alive when I’m helping other people succeed.
Here’s the thing that blew my mind: my dad was a Grammy-nominated songwriter, but he’d been stuck on this book idea for 20 years. I thought writing would come naturally to him, but it didn’t.

So I had this idea, what if he just spoke his book instead? I’d ask questions, we’d record everything, and I’d help shape it.

Helping my dad finish that book is still one of my top achievements. Not because of sales or anything like that, but because of all that time we spent together in those recording sessions. Those moments were everything.

This whole experience inspired what I’m doing next. There are so many people with incredible stories who feel intimidated by writing. Your story doesn’t have to die with you, there’s actually a way to share it without sitting down and writing everything yourself.

I’m on a mission to help as many people as I can do exactly that.

I’ve had business ideas fizzle.

Business partnerships dissolve.

Friends become strangers.

And in the middle of it all, I became a husband and a father in a new country.

Here’s what I’ve learned: relying on another person’s dream to set you free is a gamble.

Sometimes it works. Often it doesn’t.

Someday isn’t on the calendar.

No one is coming.

And that’s the point, it pushed me to stop waiting and start creating my own path.

I’ve been building something close to my heart.

And soon, I’ll share it with you.

My high school years were a transformative period in my life.

Despite my lack of academic success, I managed to graduate with a 1.8 GPA.

At 17, I was first introduced to alcohol, and, despite the unpleasant taste, I found myself drawn to the feeling it gave me.

This was the beginning of my 13-year battle with alcoholism.

I believed I had control over my drinking. Still, as time passed, it became increasingly clear that alcohol had taken control of me.

Over the next few months, I will share my ongoing in sobriety with the hope that it will provide support and inspiration for those struggling with .

I intend to demonstrate that long-term sobriety is attainable by taking it one day at a time.🌀
