At Gamblin, we have a lot to be thankful for. We also work very hard. For Thanksgiving week, we intend to play hard. As a 30-person team we need each other, and there’s a limit to how many people can take the same day off. We want every person on our team to get home to see our friends and family, so it’s a yearly tradition to give all employees a full week’s pay and close Gamblin for the week.

Many of us use this time to paint, to ponder, and to set our sights for the coming year. Whether that’s prepping panels, varnishing the latest piece off the easel, or brainstorming concepts for our next series of work. We reflect on what matters and are grateful for what we have.

We look forward to reconnecting with you when we’re all back in the saddle and wish you the happiest Paintsgiving/Thanksgiving.

Always forward. Together.

.kc Baek Kyoung we are so flattered by the “portraits” you painted of us! Thank you. 🙏🎨🖌️

A large part of our work comes from seeing what artists are making. We’re painters, too… count on us to put our heads, hearts, hands and everything we’ve learned into everything we do.

Finally, lids that are a breeze to open! We are excited to announce that using your favorite fluid medium is about to get so much easier. Introducing our new caps for households with no small children.

You read that right. No more push-down-and-turn, just twist it off. No more struggling. No more curse words. Instead, you’ll stay in your creative flow, untethered by the frustrating clicking sound when the bottle just. won’t. open.

This change is rolling out across all bottle sizes for our solvent-free products, including Linseed Oil, Safflower Oil, Solvent-Free Fluid, Stand Oil, and PVA Size. You’ll also find these user-friendly caps on our 8oz Gamblin 3-in-1, Gamsol, and Gamvar bottles. Even better, 16oz Gamsol bottles will also feature these improved caps later this summer.

We recommend checking with your local retailer first as these new caps will be showing up on shelves over the rest of the summer and beyond.

For households with small children, please note that our smaller bottle inventory for Gamsol and Gamvar will continue to carry Child Resistant Closures so everyone has the safety option that suits their needs.

Finally, painting knives you can’t keep your hands off.

Check out the difference between Robert Gamblin’s knife, “The Taylor” vs. a brand-new knife off the shelf. You can imagine the stories and paintings created by the artist’s hand reflected in the patina of pigments on the handle and blade.

Our longest knife, The Taylor is useful for working big, blocking in large areas of color, and creating large color mixtures. The long blade can also help smooth out the texture or the edges of your painting.

When we paint, we work with our heads, hearts, and hands. Everything comes together and comes out through our brushes and knives. Our work matters. Our process matters. And our tools matter! We believe every artist deserves to have the right tool for the job, and that’s why we offer our six special shapes in the Studio Knife lineup. Head on over to our website to learn more.

‘Honey’ by Abbigail Holden (www.abbeyholden.com) using Reclaimed Earth pigment on canvas. We love how this piece carries a special story, rooted in both history and healing.

Each spec of pigment was painstakingly harvested from the Mississippi & Ohio Rivers through a process designed to purify water polluted by mining runoff. As the contaminated water is treated, oxidized metals are removed, leaving behind clean water and non-toxic iron oxide pigments. The water is returned to the river, restored. The pigments take on a new life as paint, carrying the memory of place and process into a new form.

We wanted to share the story of Reclaimed Earth in honor of Earth Day, and to spread the word about a special opportunity with and who have a “Call for Art” presently underway.

They really want to see what artists have made with the iron oxides from Acid Mine Drainage pollution and feature the work in an online gallery exhibition, and we’d love to see them, too. Like Abbey’s painting, they all share a unique story.

It is our pleasure to introduce you to our newest oil painting medium, designed for all stages of oil painting: Gamblin 3-in-1

Gamblin 3-in-1 is a mixture of Gamsol, Safflower Oil and the same soybean alkyd resin in our Galkyd mediums. This is based on a homemade solution we've recommended for years to artists for three specific uses.

First, it's a terrific all-around lean and thin painting medium. Second, It's ideal for oiling out a painting before deciding if the painting is ready to varnished or if there's more painting to be done. And finally, it's the perfect tool for preparing wood panels for painting and before priming them with Gamblin Ground.

With this new medium, we've refined the formula to help make it easy and reliable for artists versus mixing their own. Head on over to our website to learn more: gamblincolors.com/3-in-1/

Imagine that it’s 2005 and Gamblin is celebrating 25 years of colormaking.

Fast forward another 20 years and you’re looking at a 45-year legacy of true color at a real value.

Did you know that when you go big with the 150ml tube you’re getting over 35%+ more color for the price versus buying the same amount in 37ml tubes? That’s more paint on the palette and more bang for your brush.

Tell us about the first time you purchased a big tube of Gamblin; we are proud to have earned a place on your palette.

Gel mediums have a consistency similar to oil paint, which helps loosen colors while maintaining volume to create thick, crisp marks. When squeezed out, gel mediums stay put, sitting near your colors without running down your palette.

When a painting is completed, all of the thought, effort and emotion that went into it are reflected in the artist’s marks. Our three gel mediums are Solvent-Free Gel, Galkyd Gel, and Galkyd Lite Gel (the medium formerly known as Neo Megilp)

A New Year's Note from Robert Gamblin

"Happy New Year to you. We hope we all find more time to paint this year. And we hope your painting evolves in a way that feels good to you.

This time of year, I get to thinking about time passing and reflect on my life in painting. It's interesting to look back and see the many stages one goes through over one's painting life.

I started out having neither a clue nor a direction. Just the desire and the need to paint. Then after a few years, I chose to focus on the landscape. After much work and study, a few years later, I found my voice and my place.

I was dedicated to painting long before I was any good at it. So it wasn't success that kept me at it. I think I stuck with it because of the need for a creative outlet, the art therapy that comes along for the ride, and the way that painting demands everything from you and yet can give back so much more in return.

As I look back over my painting life, what I value most isn't the handful of works I'm most pleased with. It's what the practice of painting has given me. When I see a work from decades ago, I see more clearly who I was at that time, and where I have come to as a person. So, we have one more wish for you. That you live long and that you also have painting as a record of your life.

On behalf of everyone at Gamblin, we wish you all the best in 2025 and we look forward to working with you. "
