The Imani Project is sad to announce the passing of Marlene Anderson. Marlene started The Imani Project in 2004 when she visited the Sabaki River delta on a birding expedition and noted the effect of the HIV/AIDS pandemic in the area.

Marlene has left a beautiful legacy that has helped so many people in both Kenya and Oregon. She will be deeply missed.

Updates about memorial services will be posted when they are available .

The Imani Project matches children from Kenya's eastern coastal region with international sponsors. Children that are orphaned, in dire need, or HIV+ are available to be sponsored. A gift of $35/month provides food and support for the child and his or her host family. Please consider sponsoring 6 year old Kitu.
Kitu and her two siblings live with their grandmother in Moi Village. Her father left the family a year ago and her mother died of lung cancer in March 2022. Her grandmother makes mats and baskets and sells them to try to cover her grandchildren’s needs. The family is in need of food, school fees and other basic needs. Kitu is in urgent need of help. https://imaniproject.org/kitu-gandi-ponda/

A gift of $30/month provides food and support for the child and his or her host family. Please consider sponsoring Clintone and Collins.
They are malnourished, lack proper shelter and do not have money to attend school. Clintone & Collins are 11-year-old twins living with their mother and three siblings in Sabaki Village. Their mother only earns enough money for a little food. This family is in dire need of most basic needs: food, proper shelter, school fees and many other things. These boys are in urgent need of help. https://imaniproject.org/clintone-collins-emmanuel/

The Imani Project continues to use donated funds to distribute food, support the preschools and work with the Kenyan staff. The need is great and even more so in the time of Covid.

Currently total food distribution will be to 44 villages. Starving families, disabled children and adults, and elderly. The distribution is not yet completed and the gifts totaling $650 will be used to complete the distribution, and also to target the neediest preschools. (In some areas the preschoolers are coming to school hungry, having not eaten and very tired).

Consider a donation to The Imani Project in your holiday giving plans.

Mercyline Jumwa is a 2 1/2 year old HIV+ child in need of a sponsor. Both Mercyline and her mother are HIV+. Her father died of AIDS. Mercyline and her mother live with her 5 siblings in Magarini Hill Village. Her mother sells old clothes and tends a small garden when she is physically able. She is very careful of Mercyline’s medical needs. Mercyline’s oldest brother dropped out of school to try to help the family but they are still in great need. The family is desperate for food, school fees and other basic needs. Mercyline would like to attend nursery school when they have enough money for the fees and a uniform. A gift of $30 a month would provide food and support for this child and her family.
