Breastfeeding is about more than milk.
Yes, itās nourishment.
Yes, itās antibodies.
Yes, itās beautifully designed nutrition.
But itās also co-regulation.
Itās oxytocin flowing.
Itās nervous systems syncing.
Itās thousands of tiny moments of āyou are safe with me.ā
When a baby latches, both mother and baby release oxytocin, the bonding hormone. Heart rates steady. Breathing slows. Cortisol decreases. Safety increases.
Your body becomes their anchor.
And hereās what I love reminding mothers:
Your nervous system benefits too.
Breastfeeding can be a forced pause in a world that rarely asks us to be still. A rhythm. A return. A quiet sanctuary in the middle of long days and longer nights.
And if breastfeeding is complicated, painful, short-lived, or not your path, bonding is still absolutely possible. Attachment is built through presence and responsiveness, not ounces.
Connection is the magic.
Milk is just one pathway. š¤
If this speaks to you, share it with a mama who needs the reminder.
