Our first training cohort completed their first two weeks together, and it’s been a powerful beginning.

During these opening weeks, students have been grounding into the why behind the work, exploring the core principles that shape Structural Integration and learning how to see the body as a whole, organized system rather than a collection of parts.

Some highlights from the first two weeks:
- Exploring the 5 Principles of Structural Integration: holism, support, adaptability, relationships, and integration
- Learning how gravity, structure, and function relate to one another
- Beginning visual and functional assessment, including how to observe patterns without objectively
- Practicing weight-bearing palpation and developing a tactile vocabulary
- Building shared language, safety, and trust within the cohort

These first weeks set the tone for the rest of the program: curiosity over certainty, perception over force, and learning that unfolds through experience.

We’re excited to see how this foundation continues to support their growth as practitioners in the weeks ahead. In February, they will begin session one of the series - for each other and for their client models.

Today is the first day of our 2026 cohort!

Week 1 of the training is dedicated to establishing the ground from which all future learning unfolds.

Throughout the week, students explore the five core principles of Structural Integration - Holism, Adaptability, Support, Relationship, and Integration - not as abstract ideas, but as lived, embodied frameworks that shape perception, touch, and clinical decision-making.

Across the week, students will:
• Develop embodied awareness through guided movement and sensory exploration
• Learn to perceive the body as an integrated system organizing in gravity
• Explore concepts such as biotensegrity, lift and ground, midline, and support
• Begin understanding how global patterns relate to local expression
• Practice foundational skills including observation, palpation, quality of touch, and weight-bearing contact

Week 1 also establishes the relational and ethical container of the work:
• Group agreements and shared responsibility
• Boundaries, power dynamics, and informed consent as ongoing processes
• Practitioner self-awareness, nervous system regulation, and active listening

Hands-on learning begins immediately, with students working at tables to explore grounding through the feet, lift through the side body and diaphragm, and simple integrative closing work, always guided by the principles rather than a fixed protocol.

By the end of Week 1, students are oriented not just to what Structural Integration is, but how to think, perceive, and relate as Structural Integrators.

This is the foundation on which the entire training is built.

Meet The Students of the 2026 Cohort - Practitioner Highlight

Name: Kimberly
Pronouns: She/Her

Why did you decide to study Structural Integration?
I decided to study Structural Integration as it's always been an area of interest for me. Most recently, I had the opportunity to go through a series myself and it honestly feels like a disservice to my clients and myself to not bring this knowledge and skillset into my practice.

What are you most excited about in starting your training?
I'm most excited to learn a new way of thinking about the body and how we can help it heal, highlighting using less physical effort to make more substantial changes.

What populations or groups of people are you most interested in working with?
The niche passion of my practice is to work with equestrians and their equine partners.

Kimberly is a recipient of the Community Clinic Internship scholarship serving in the 2027 IDA-SI Community Clinic.

Meet The Students of the 2026 Cohort - Practitioner Highlight

Name: Cameron
Pronouns: She/Her

Why did you decide to study Structural Integration?
I became passionate about Structural Integration after experiencing the healing benefits first hand. I developed post traumatic arthritis in my foot after a fall, a condition that I was told by an orthopedic specialist required surgery. After receiving structural integration, I am able to walk without pain, dance barefoot and live a completely active life which I am eternally grateful for.

What are you most excited about in starting your training?
I am most excited about immersing myself in the program for a year, learning from all the talented instructors at IDA-SI.

What populations or groups of people are you most interested in working with?
My intention is to serve my North Oregon Coast community with a focus on women’s health and scar work.

Why did you decide to study Structural Integration?
I am studying Structural Integration because I want to create longer-lasting change for my clients instead of just short-term relief.

What are you most excited about in starting your training?
I’m excited to learn a clear framework that will sharpen my skills and help me work more effectively.

What populations or groups of people are you most interested in working with?
I’m most interested in working with people dealing with chronic pain, structural imbalances, and those who haven’t found answers through traditional massage. I like supporting motivated clients who want to feel and move better in a real, lasting way.

Meet The Students of the 2026 Cohort - Practitioner Highlight

Name: Justin
Pronouns: He/Him/el

Why did you decide to study Structural Integration?
Viewing bodywork through the structural lens has fundamentally shifted how I work. I think it does a great job at building awareness and fortifying the mind-body connection. I want to help individuals harness that awareness and find more freedom in movement. When possible blending my background fitness, yoga, and thai massage.

What are you most excited about in starting your training?
I love being a student, forever curious and excited for the new ways I will learn to engage with and support individuals.

What populations or groups of people are you most interested in working with?
Individuals who are looking to unlock new movement patterns, specifically athletes, those with athletic goals or individuals recovering from an acute injury. Individuals who speak Spanish as a primary language and would like to receive care in their native language.

Meet The Students of the 2026 Cohort - Practitioner Highlight

Name: Bina
Pronouns: They/Them, She/Her

Why did you decide to study Structural Integration?
It feels like my whole life I've been searching for structural integration. Then I took the structural integration elective during massage school, and everything seemed to click. To me it feels like the perfect blend of western and eastern bodywork modalities.

What are you most excited about in starting your training?
Probably being a sponge and absorbing as much information as possible.

What populations or groups of people are you most interested in working with?
As someone who is a bit hypermobile, I am curious to work with this population and focus on finding support rather than "loosening" tight muscles.

Bina is a recipient of the Community Clinic Internship scholarship serving in the 2027 IDA-SI Community Clinic.

Meet The Students of the 2026 Cohort - Practitioner Highlight

Name: Alanna
Pronouns: She/Her

Why did you decide to study Structural Integration?
My interest in Structural Integration is that it approaches the body as a whole, integrating how we currently use our bodies and the freedom we can have from restrictions in our bodies that have developed over time or from trauma.

What are you most excited about in starting your training?
I am most excited to be able to grow mentally and be more equipped to help people who feel restricted or held back physically, find freedom within their own bodies

What populations or groups of people are you most interested in working with?
Those who feel restricted or trapped because of the shortcomings of their body movements, the person who in their late 80 who discovered they can have freedom of movement, the person who has MS and wants to still be able to walk and drive, the cancer survivor who wished they would’ve known about lymphedema and how drastically it impacts their life.

Meet The Students of the 2026 Cohort - Practitioner Highlight

Name: Oddessa
Pronouns: She/Her, They/Them

Why did you decide to study Structural Integration?
I decided to study SI because I seek to marry posture and movement assessment while connecting with the fascial system. Too long the mechanisms of allopathic manual therapy have focused on the compartmentalization of syndromes and patterns. I look forward to treating the whole body and facilitating the connection of once disparate regions in order to effect long lasting functional change and more expansive intrapersonal awareness.

What are you most excited about in starting your training?
I am most excited about challenging my current perspective while being a student of bodywork again. I am equally excited to expand my professional sphere and continue to get to know the Portland community.

What populations or groups of people are you most interested in working with?
I am most interested in orthopedic and somatic applications of Structural Integration.

Oddessa is a recipient of the Equity Advancement Scholarship.
