Little update for the summer: I'm teaching two classes on Wednesday for the next couple months! If you're like me and you like to be in bed reading by 8:30 on weeknights, now we can do yoga together a little earlier in the evening.

Our last Depth in Basics of the season will be this month, May 24 at PRG NE. We're working on twists! Hope to see you soon 🫶

Hi! My name is Brooke. I'm a yoga teacher in Portland, OR currently teaching at Portland Rock Gym. It's always hard for me to try to encompass my relationship with yoga and my teaching style/philosophy in a few short sentences. It's complex and deep. But here's an attempt:

🦵 I love to bring in insights I learn from physiotherapists and movement specialists about biomechanics and anatomy. I like to be specific about how we're moving and use that specificity as a tool to hone the attention.

🤪 I enjoy challenging myself and my students to explore unfamiliar or weird movements. Yoga is meant to make us uncomfortable! Embrace the awkward! Don't kill the cringe, kill the part of you that cringes!

🧘‍♀️ I believe in being a human first and a teacher second. I'm never going to pretend like I have it all figured out. That I'm a wise and enlightened Teacher™️ dictating The Way. I make mistakes. I make jokes. I try not to take myself too seriously. I try to trust that yoga works. Yoga doesn't need me. It's been around for a long time. I just try to make space for yoga to work with you.

⚒️ I've been practicing for almost 15 years and teaching for 6 and yoga is still hard. The poses are hard. Meditation is hard. Being still is hard. Like life, it doesn't get easier but I can navigate it better. I have better tools, better awareness. Some poses have gotten "better" and some have gotten "worse." I love using blocks and other props more and more as I become more "advanced."

That's probably enough for now.

I love the connections I've made with the community at PRG. I'd love to see you there!

Schedule for summer 2025:
Wednesdays 6 pm Vinyasa, 7:30 pm Flow + Restore
Saturdays 9:30 am Vinyasa

Back in my mid-life/existential crisis era, but grateful for dogs and sun and dirt and plants. Grateful to come to my mat and move and breathe and feel simply alive.

Really looking forward to being in community tomorrow. Hope to see you for 9:30 vinyasa at PRG!

📢 Schedule update! I'm so excited to start teaching Depth in Basics 4th Saturdays at ! This class will be offered monthly at each PRG location. It is beginner-friendly, but by no means beginner-exclusive. In this class we'll slow down and take time for demonstration and explanation, diving deeply into WHAT we're doing, WHY we're doing it, and HOW and why we might do things differently. These are the conversations I absolutely love to have with folks, and I'm stoked to have a dedicated place to help demystify the yoga practice and help you practice with more awareness, whether you're brand new, or interested in refining your practice.

This is a such a unique and valuable offering. And I really hope to see you there!

This Saturday, January 21 I'll be teaching a How to Vinyasa workshop at Portland Rock Gym!

The vinyasya sequence (plank, chaturanga, up dog, down dog) of flow yoga classes ubiquitous but rarely *taught* And this is a challenging sequence of poses!! The traditional sequence requires tremendous strength through the core, arms, and upper back, as well as significant mobility through the entire spine.

During the workshop we'll talk about what vinyasa is, WHY we do this, and HOW we can vinyasa in collaboration with our bodies to enjoy the benefits without harm. We'll break down each component part, walk through the transitions between poses, and practice alternative versions so that your yoga menu offers you plenty to choose from each time you come to your mat. I hope to see you there! 💓

Teaching schedule:

💜 I'm still teaching Saturday morning Vinyasa -- 9:30 AM. Move, breathe, play, connect.

💜 I just added a Wednesday evening Restorative class! In Restorative yoga the body is completely supported to allow deep release of the soft tissues. It cultivates our ability to downregulate the nervous system and practice relaxation. It's a lovely way to gather yourself in and practice maitri: loving kindness. -- 7:30 PM

Both with the cool, kind community at !

I was introduced to yoga while studying acting. Which makes sense because both yoga and theatre are practices of Attention, and practices of becoming closer to yourself by becoming closer to not-yourself and vice versa. When you pay Attention you notice, you feel, that there's something special about gathering together in person. There's something special that happens when people are in a room together that can't be replicated by technology. There's an energy that mixes and becomes electric when we're together.

There's so much that I deeply love about the technological revolution that's happened over the last year. I love that yoga is more accessible to more people in so many ways: scheduling availability, price, lack of pressure to do or "achieve" & more freedom to listen to your own heart and choose your own yoga adventure each time you step on the mat.

I hope we keep that. But it's also made the visceral, wonderful impact is being together so much more apparent. Listening to the oceanic sound of people breathing. Raising our voices together, vibrating as individuals and as a collective symphony. Laughing. Feeling the energy of each person choosing their own path, but knowing that we're all here together on this journey. What a gift to be here together. What a gift to be here together with our friends, and neighbors and strangers. Together as humans. ❤️

Sometimes I forget I have a body. I get so caught up in the citta vritti - the stirrings of thoughts - that constant churning, trying to think my way into and out of everything. Maybe you feel that way too sometimes. In class tomorrow we're going to focus on dropping into the feeling body to remember that we are here and now and we are more than that whirlwind of the mind. 9 AM (or whenever you feel like it) on the Free Love platform! ❤️

Eek! It's here, friends! My first live-streamed class with ! The first couple minutes are totally awkward 😆🤦‍♀️ But it's all good. Awkward is kind of the thing about yoga because being awkward interrupts our habits and patterns and creates space for new growth!

This flow is all about hip stability, with twists, and oblique work. A great refresh especially if you're at a desk a lot. Enjoy! 💗
