๐ŸŒŸ We are feeling so inspired after proudly joining the Alzheimer's Association not only as a sponsor for the 2025 Seacoast Walk, but as a longtime supporter, walkers, and partner! It was an incredible day at the new location on Pierce Island, Portsmouth, NH, where we felt the power of community as we united for a vital cause. ๐Ÿ’œ

Our hearts were full after hearing about the amazing milestones achieved this year, including raising over $300,000 and welcoming more than 1,000 walkers decked out in waves of purple! Itโ€™s heartwarming to witness the commitment surrounding advancements in treatments and support for those affected by Alzheimer's and other dementias.

A huge THANK YOU to all the volunteers and staff members who made this day possible, and to everyone who recognizes the importance of raising awareness for this disease. Together, we are making a difference! ๐Ÿ’œ๐ŸŒŠ

We were out tabling last week! On Wednesday, Mackenzie, WSL HR Coordinator was representing our community and meeting with students of New Hampshire for their Career fair.

On Thursday Kiana, WSL Admissions and Marketing Coordinator was tabling at the Portsmouth Senior Wellness Expo and engaging with local seniors. Thank you Portsmouth NH Senior Activity Center for having us!

Lots of great conversations, we had such an incredible time meeting everyone! โ˜บ๏ธ

โœจ What a magical evening we shared at our WSL Great Grandeur, End of Summer Soiree! It was a celebration of community, compassion, and commitment, filled with our incredible supporters who embody the heart of WSL.

We were truly inspired by the powerful speeches from a current WSL resident, a family member of a resident, our devoted CEO, the chair of our board, and the dedicated supervisor of our Memory Support Program. Their words reminded us of the profound difference we can make when we come together with care and purpose.

We also launched our Portsmouth Raffle Basket, benefiting the Alzheimerโ€™s Association, that night, crafted from the generous donations of local businesses and individuals. We are thrilled to announce that, thanks to your unwavering support, we just closed sales last week and were able to raise a remarkable $1,015! ๐ŸŽ‰

Thank you to each and every one of you who joined us and poured your heart into this event. Your passion will continue to light the path forward for those we serve. Together, we are creating a brighter future. ๐Ÿ’™

We were honored to welcome Susan Leach, a nationally recognized muralist who specializes in capturing the spirit of early American life and mid-century Americana to WSL last month.

She created two hand painted murals designed with intention and compassion for our community. Our main lobby mural captures Portsmouth and its four seasons holding a daily reminder of the beauty of our region and the richness of each season of life. In Coveside commons, Susan painted the second piece of artwork which reflects a beautiful beach seascape, a New England lighthouse and a peaceful sailboat, providing a sense of serenity and familiarity.

Join us in supporting resident voices: this project was inspired by the thoughtful suggestion of a resident, a wonderful reminder that our community is shaped by those who live here. When you support this project, youโ€™re supporting the ideas, passion and creativity of our residents. If you are interested in making a donation towards the murals or other building enhancements of WSL please inquire by calling our main line or by reaching out on our website. For this specific project donors who give $1,000 or more will be recognized on a commemorative plaque in their name! Donations to be part of this plaque is due September 12.

Thank you to all of those who have supported and made a donation. You make an impact on residence, lives each and every day.

It was a pleasure to host these amazing professionals last Thursday morning here at WSL for our Annual Networking Breakfast through the NH Seacoast Senior Healthcare Networking Group.

It certainly takes a village to give seniors the support they need and deserve, and we are incredibly proud to be part of a group that cares so much.

Thank you to Carey Fitzgerald for leading this group, our spectacular dining team for the delicious crapes and treats, and all the wonderful people who took the time to connect with us on such a beautiful day. ๐Ÿ‘

We hope everyone had a fun 4th of July! Our festivities started on the 3rd when we hosted our Annual Fireworks Celebration last Thursday night! ๐ŸŽ†

Despite the rain, we had a great turnout! Our friends from Holiday Kittery Estates and the Seacoast Village Project, as well as those from the community, our waitlist, WSL residents and their family members all joined us that evening.

We had delicious food thanks to our fabulous dining team, along with sweet ice cream, good music, and incredible fireworks shout out to the Portsmouth Recreation - NH! ๐Ÿฅณ

Last Thursday we welcomed Karen Sawyer Conard, City Manager, C Sean Clancy, Assistance City Manager for Economic & Community Development, and Deaglan McEachern Mayor of Portsmouth to WSL! Their presence and time were greatly appreciated by all the residents who came to hear about the 'State of the City.' ๐Ÿ›

WSL has lifetime Portsmouth residents, previous out-of-staters, and many who have family and friends within the city, so this was a full house morning event.

We held a questions and answer round after the presentation where residents gave comments and questions regarding accessibility within the city all the way to global warming and rising sea level concerns. We are so thankful to be included in the feedback and conversations within the city! We hope to see them all soon! ๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ‘

May's Community Event: Historical Happy Hour was a hit! There are so many fascinating stories to be told. We showcased an old nurse's cap, a silver tray that was presented to a previous president of WSL, photos prior to the renovations, koozies from our Portsmouth400 historical tours we did, and of course some light bites.

RSVP now for our next free community event, open to ALL seniors (nonresidents included). The 'Paint and Sip' will be hosted at WSL on Friday, June 20th at 3:45pm in our garden. Watercolors and wine... what else would you want to do on a Friday afternoon? We hope to see you there! ๐Ÿ˜†

WSL hosted a 'Dementia Live Experience' that provided education, insight and donations to a great nonprofit this past Saturday. We are thankful to have had representatives from Portsmouth NH Police Department and Seacoast Village Project join us, along with many family members of WSL residents, and other folks in the community that have a loved one living with dementia or work in the senior living field. ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘

It was an eye-opening experience, that gave folks a glimpse into a perspective of someone living with the disease. We asked participants to make a donation to the Alzheimer's Association as a way to secure their spot, which has helped us raise almost $900 so far! ๐Ÿคฉ

Pictured from left to right is Detective Rochelle Jone's with the Portsmouth NH Police Department, WSL Enrichment Assistant Brianna Neely, Seacoast Walk to End Alzheimer's Director Maria Stephanou, and WSL Resident Care Manager Melissa Powers. The second photo captures all the Dementia Live equipment that impairs senses for participants going through the experience; this includes gloves, headphones, glasses, and bagged rice that goes in their shoes.

Please join us in celebrating and congratulating WSL's Annual Joan P. Nickell award winner, Terrence O'Rourke. Terrence has been with WSL as our handy dandy custodian since March of 2023. ๐Ÿ‘

He is exactly what the nomination and award exemplify. He goes above and beyond each and every day, checking each box of WSL's core values: Equality, Teamwork, Connection, Respect, Integrity, Communication, Empowerment, Excellence, and Accountability.

Multiple staff nominated Terrence, and all the residents can attest to his dedication and amazing personality that he brings to our community. We are very proud to have him here and had a wonderful time throwing a Terrence-tailored event equipped with lobster rolls, sports themed photo booths and snacks, great music and people! ๐Ÿฆž๐Ÿฅจโšพ๏ธโ›ท
