The preliminary 2025 bear harvest numbers are out from the Department of Natural Resources and it was a great season across the U.P. Although a few areas hunters struggled with an abundance of natural feed making bait activity spotty, that same abundant food makes for some great healthy bear. The 3 check stations managed by the Escanaba field office saw 8 bears registered over 500lbs and more than 20 over 400lbs. Those are bears that certainly will score 18” or better. We had hunters harvest 3 that scored 18” or better ourselves. The Carney unit,specifically Menominee county as well as part of Dickinson and Delta continues to produce these giants and we can’t wait to see what 2026 will bring. Happy Holidays to everyone!!!
