In my practice, I often see patients who have been told their labs are “normal,” yet they are struggling with anxiety, brain fog, heart palpitations, digestive issues, and strange allergic-type reactions that seem to come out of nowhere.
They start to wonder:
“Is this just stress?”
“Is this just depression?”
Sometimes… it’s not.
Mast cells are immune cells that act like your body’s alarm system. When functioning properly, they release chemicals like histamine to protect you from real threats.
But in Mast Cell Activation Syndrome (MCAS), that alarm system becomes overly sensitive.
It starts reacting to things that shouldn’t trigger a response, such as foods, smells, stress, temperature changes, and even hormonal shifts.
And because mast cells are present throughout the body, including the brain, symptoms can appear psychiatric.
Histamine and inflammatory chemicals directly influence neurotransmitters. They can drive anxiety. They can worsen depression. They can create that “wired but exhausted” feeling.
Instead of asking, “What medication matches this symptom?”
I ask, “Why is the immune system on high alert?”
We look for root causes like:
✅ Mold exposure
✅ Chronic infections
✅ Gut imbalance
✅ Environmental toxins
✅ Hormonal shifts
✅ Chronic stress
When we stabilize mast cells and calm inflammation, patients often experience clearer thinking, improved mood, and greater emotional resilience.
If you’ve been told everything looks normal, but you don’t feel normal, keep asking questions.
It might not be just anxiety.
It might be your immune system asking for support.
